Kaplan topples West St. Mary

BALDWIN _ Julius Johnson rushed for 118 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Kaplan Pirates to a 48-7 District 6-3A victory over the West St. Mary Wolfpack here Friday at Wolfpack Stadium.
West St. Mary (0-7, 0-2) scored its lone touchdown in the second quarter when Shelby Phillips hauled in a 14-yard pass from Dondre Johnson followed by a kick from Torrance Ballard.
Kaplan (5-2, 2-0) opened the scoring with Johnson’s 55-yard jaunt before Darren Istre ran for a six-yard touchdown.
Kaplan’s Justin Stoute helped the Pirates build a 21-0 advantage early in the second quarter.
WSM trimmed Kaplan’s lead to 21-7 on Phillips TD catch and the kick by Ballard.
Johnson scored touchdown runs of 1 and 3 yards before Jalen Bates scored on a 25-yard fumble recovery and Rhett Menard added a 3-yard TD, sending the Pirates out to a 48-7 District 6-3A victory over the Wolfpack.
WSM will travel to face North Vermilion on Friday while Kaplan hosts Erath.
