Lady Eagles, Eagles top Ascension Catholic

Randi Brown recorded a double-double with an impressive 37 points as Central Catholic rolled past Ascension Catholic, 74-46, Thursday.
After Central Catholic opened the game with a 29-5 scoring advantage, Ascension Catholic responded with an 18-17 scoring output in the second quarter, but Central Catholic still led 46-23 at halftime.
In the second half, Central Catholic outscored Ascension Catholic 18-15 in the third quarter and 10-8 in the fourth.
In addition to her nearly 40 points, Brown had 13 rebounds, six assists and four steals.
Meo Knight also recorded a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds as well as seven assists, six steals and one block.
Other top contributors included Megan Landry, nine points, three rebounds, one steal and one assist and Gee Garrett, six points, seven rebounds, one steal and one assist.
Central Catholic (12-2) will open District 7-1A play on the road Saturday when it travels to face Gueydan in a 3 p.m. contest.

The Central Catholic Eagles picked up a road win against Ascension Catholic Thursday, 70-64.
Four Eagles reached double figures, led by Nicholas Case’s 20 points. Others reaching double digits were Tyler Hoffpauir, 19; Samarick Paul, 11; and Stefano Guarisco, 10.
Central Catholic connected on eight 3-pointers.
While the Eagles trailed 15-14 after the first quarter, they responded by outscoring the Bulldogs 44-31 during the next two quarters for a 58-46 advantage after three quarters.
Ascension Catholic outscored Central Catholic 18-12 in the fourth quarter.
In junior varsity action, Central Catholic lost 42-29.
Blake Byrne led the Eagles with 10 points.
Central Catholic (6-7) will return to action Tuesday when it opens District 7-1A play against Highland Baptist in New Iberia. Junior varsity action is set for a 5:30 p.m. start with varsity to follow the girls’ varsity contest.
Jeanerette survives
Lumberjills
Jeanerette jumped out to a big first-quarter lead and held off Patterson for a 45-42 win in Jeanerette Monday.
While Jeanerette jumped out to an 18-2 lead after a period of play, Patterson outscored the home team 40-27 the remainder of the contest but couldn’t pull out a win.
Patterson had scoring advantages of 13-11, 14-6 and 13-10 in the second, third and fourth quarters, respectively.
Nakia Brooks led the Lumberjills with 21 points, while Jazmin Evans and Galen Grogan each scored six points and Nyla Holder, four.
Patterson (4-11) will hit the court again Tuesday when it hosts South Terrebonne. Junior varsity is set for a 6 p.m. start with varsity to follow.
