Lady Eagles fall to Gueydan

The Central Catholic Lady Eagles dropped their District 7-1A opener to Gueydan Saturday, 58-33.
The loss also ended a 28-game district winning streak for the Morgan City school dating back to January 2011.
The Lady Eagles’ last loss was a 47-43 setback to Vermilion Catholic in Morgan City on Jan. 28, 2011.
In Saturday’s game, Hallie Autin led Central Catholic with 14 points, two blocks, one steal, two assists and five rebounds.
Mary-Beth Blanchard also reached double figures with 12 points and added three rebounds.
Other top contributors included Hanna McCue, two points, one steal, one assist and three rebounds; Taylor Picou, two points and five rebounds; Sydney Williams, one point and five rebounds; and Rebecca David, two points and one rebound.
Central Catholic (3-10 overall, 0-1) will return to action Tuesday when it hosts Highland Baptist in a 6 p.m. contest.
Berwick falls to
Ascension Catholic
The Berwick Lady Panthers fell to Ascension Catholic, 72-8, in prep basketball action in Berwick Friday.
Ascension Catholic put the game away in the first quarter, outscoring Berwick 36-3.
The Lady Bulldogs led 50-7 at halftime and held Berwick scoreless in the third quarter while extending its lead to 70-7.
The teams combined for just three points in the fourth quarter, two from Ascension Catholic and one from Berwick.
Jenna Beiza led Berwick with five points, while Iesha Jones had three.
Berwick (0-7) will return to action Tuesday with a 6 p.m. contest against West St. Mary.
Other girls’ games
The Patterson (9-7) will return to the court Tuesday when it hosts Erath in a 6 p.m. contest.
Meanwhile, Morgan City (6-5) will host Kaplan in a 5 p.m. contest.
