Lady Panthers record 4 wins this weekend

The Berwick Lady Panthers won four of five games this weekend — three at their Lady Panther Classic and the fourth, a conclusion of a makeup game.
Berwick defeated Captain Shreve 9-3 in its tournament opener Friday before concluding a game against New Iberia that had been postponed on Feb. 23 with a 5-4 victory in 10 innings.
The Lady Panthers concluded Friday with an 8-7 victory against Morgan City.
On Saturday, Berwick knocked off St. Charles, 9-1, before falling in its tournament finale to Kaplan, 9-2.
Against Captain Shreve, each team scored a run in the first inning before Berwick broke open the game with six runs in the second.
Each team plated a run in the third and fourth innings.
Rennen DeLatte earned the win for Berwick. In seven innings, she surrendered three runs on six hits with five strikeouts.
Offensively, Shannon Theriot had three hits for Berwick, while other top hitters included Caroline Osburn, two hits, including a double; and Sydney Aucoin, two hits.
Berwick outhit Captain Shreve 10-6, while Captain Shreve committed four errors.
The New Iberia game, for which stats were not submitted, was a completion of a Feb. 23 game that was suspended due to darkness after eight innings with the score tied at 4.
Berwick scored the winning run in the bottom of the 10th for the victory.
In the nightcap for the Lady Panthers, in a back-and-forth game, the Lady Panthers plated the winning run after a hit by DeLatte in the top of the seventh.
On defense, they held the Lady Tigers off the scoreboard in the bottom of the frame.
While Berwick led 4-0 heading into the bottom of the third, Morgan City plated two runs in the frame and four more in the bottom of the fourth for a 6-4 lead.
Berwick knotted the score at 6 in the top of the fifth, while Morgan City plated a run in the bottom of the fifth.
Berwick tied the game at 7 in the sixth inning.
Aucoin earned the win for Berwick. In seven innings, she surrendered seven runs on 13 hits.
Morgan City outhit Berwick 13-9.
Offensively, Shelby Bergeron led Berwick with three hits, including a double, while Theriot had two hits.
On Saturday, Berwick never trailed, scoring in every inning except the fifth.
The Lady Panthers took as much as a 9-0 lead after a run in the top of the seventh inning before St. Charles plated its lone run in the bottom of the frame.
DeLatte earned the win. In seven innings, she surrendered one run on five hits with two strikeouts.
Offensively, Jordan Lipari led Berwick with three hits, while DeLatte and Bergeron each finished with two hits, including a double apiece.
Other top hitters for Berwick included Jaci Arnold, who had a double.
St. Charles entered the game ranked No. 2 in Class 3A, according to the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s first week of power rankings.
Against Kaplan, the visitors never trailed, scoring five runs in the top of the first and one more in the second for a 6-0 lead.
While Berwick plated two runs in the bottom of the fifth, Kaplan countered with three more in its final at bat.
Kaplan outhit Berwick 10-7, while the Lady Panthers committed three errors.
Aucoin suffered the loss for Berwick. In seven innings, she surrendered nine runs on 10 hits with one walk and one strikeout.
Offensively, Rosalyn Gros led Berwick with two hits.
Kaplan was a Class 3A quarterfinalist a year ago.
Berwick (4-7) will return to action Tuesday when it hosts St. John of Plaquemine in Berwick at 4:30 p.m. St. John was a Class 1A quarterfinalist a year ago.
Patterson finishes 2-2
at tournament
The Patterson Lumberjills finished 2-2 at its Ned Stephens Memorial Tournament this weekend with wins against Covenant Christian and Highland Baptist and losses to Loreauville and Fisher.
On Friday, Patterson fell to Loreauville 5-3 and Fisher, 3-0, while on Saturday, Patterson bounced back with a 2-0 win against Highland Baptist and a 14-4 win against Covenant Christian.
In Friday’s loss to Loreauville, Patterson pitcher Taylor Hall recorded 17 strikeouts.
Offensively, Nia Broussard led Patterson with a 2-for-4 performance with an RBI, while Emmeli Smith also finished 2-for-4 with a double and a run.
Other top hitters for Patterson included Hall, 1-for-3, a double; and Cayla Wiggins, 1-for-4, a double and an RBI.
In the loss to Fisher, Gaylen Grogan led Patterson with a 2-for-3 performance with a double, while Hall was 1-for-3 with a double.
Fisher was a Class 2A quarterfinalist a year ago.
Against Covenant Christian, Patterson recorded a run-rule in five innings, courtesy of a walk-off grand slam by Grogan.
Grogan finished 2-for-3 with the grand slam and five RBIs.
Other top hitters for Patterson included Hall, 3-for-3, a double, two runs and three RBIs; Wiggins, 3-for-3, a double, three runs and one RBI; Ashley Bonilla, 1-for-2, two RBIs; and Tapanga Haven, 1-for-3, an RBI.
On the mound, Hall had 11 strikeouts.
Against Highland Baptist, Haven finished 1-for-3 with a run, while Grogan was 1-for-1.
Other top offensive contributors included Broussard, 1-for-2; Shea Fontenot, 1-for-3; and Hailey Sehon, an RBI.
Patterson (3-6) will return to action Tuesday when it hosts Morgan City in a 4 p.m. contest.
CCHS finishes 2-1
this weekend
Central Catholic finished 2-1 at the Berwick Lady Panther Classic this weekend, dropping a 4-3 decision to Cecelia Friday before bouncing back with a 5-3 victory against New Iberia and a 3-2 victory against St. Charles, both Saturday.
In Friday’s loss to Cecelia, the Lady Bulldogs plated the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
Cecelia scored two runs in the bottom of the third, while Central Catholic rallied to tie the game with a run each in the fourth and fifth innings.
Cecelia retook the lead at 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth before Central Catholic again tied it with a run in the top of the seventh.
Megan Landry suffered the loss for Central Catholic. In seven innings, she surrendered four runs, three earned, on five hits with five walks and fanned 11.
Offensively, Kaitlyn Gros led Central Catholic with a 2-for-2 performance with a run, while Brittany Longman was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Other top offensive contributors included Brooke Lipari, 2-for-3, a run; and Landry, 1-for-4, an RBI.
In Saturday’s win against New Iberia, New Iberia took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third but it was short-lived as Central Catholic scored five runs in the bottom of the third.
New Iberia responded with two runs in the fifth for the final margin.
Landry earned the win for Central Catholic. In seven innings, she surrendered three runs, two earned, on six hits with three walks and 16 strikeouts.
Offensively, Landry finished 3-for-3, while Longman was 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and a run.
Other top contributors for the Lady Eagles included Lipari, 2-for-4, a run; Gros, 1-for-3, a triple, two RBIs, a run; Hallie Autin, 1-for-3, a triple, two RBIs, a run; and Brandi Landry, 1-for-3, an RBI.
In the Lady Eagles’ finale Saturday, they edged St. Charles 3-2.

Morgan City finishes 1-2 at Lady Panther Classic
The Morgan City Lady Tigers finished 1-2 at the Lady Panther Classic with a 14-4 win against Catholic High-New Iberia Saturday, an 8-7 loss to Berwick Friday and a 6-4 loss to Cecilia Saturday.
No individual stats were available today.
Morgan City (5-4) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face Patterson.
