Lady Panthers top Lumberjills in three sets

BERWICK — The Berwick Lady Panthers earned their second win in Division 3, District 6 action with a 25-14, 25-12, 25-14 victory against Patterson Tuesday.
Brie Hill led the Lady Panthers with four aces, 16 kills, five blocks and six digs, while Ashton Morales added a kill, 19 assists and 12 digs.
Other top contributors included Diana Grace Guarisco, three aces, one assist and 17 digs; Hannah Carpenter, 16 digs; Abigail Askew, eight aces, four kills and two digs; Maddie Gray, one ace, four kills, one block assist and two digs; McKenzie Baumgardner, one kill, one block assist, two assists and one dig; and Rennen Delatte, three aces.
Gaylen Grogan had six points, three kills, three digs and a block for Patterson, while Kailyn Johnson had two points, a kill, six digs and six assists.
Other top contributors included Arian Grogan, one ace, a point, three kills, a dig and a block; Katelyn Thibodaux, 12 digs; Rachel Easley, four points and nine digs; and Nyria Robinson, two points, a kill and a block.
Berwick entered the match ranked No. 14 in the latest unofficial Louisiana High School Athletic Association power rankings released Tuesday morning, while Patterson is ranked No. 26.
Twenty-four teams in each of Louisiana volleyball’s five divisions qualify for the postseason.
Berwick (11-7 overall, 2-1 in district) will return to district play today when it hosts E.D. White, the No. 3 team in Division 3.
CCHS falls to Ursuline
Central Catholic fell to Ursuline 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-20) in New Orleans Tuesday.
Meo Knight had 22 kills, seven digs and two solo blocks for the Lady Eagles, while Kaitlyn Gros added 29 assists, Megan Landry, 14 digs; Brittany Longman, two aces; and Gee Garrett, three solo blocks.
Ursuline is the No. 4 team in Division 3 in the latest unofficial Louisiana High School Athletic Association power rankings, while Central Catholic is the No. 4 team in Division 5.
Central Catholic (12-8) will begin Division 5, District 6 play Thursday when it hosts Houma Christian for varsity action, beginning at 4 p.m.
Morgan City falls to Lutcher
The Morgan City Lady Tigers fell at Lutcher Tuesday, 3-1 in Division 3, District 6 play.
While the Lady Tigers won the first set 25-23, they fell in the next three, 15-25, 17-25, 15-25.
No individual stats were available today.
Lutcher entered the contest ranked No. 2 in Division 3 in the latest power rankings, while Morgan City is ranked No. 17.
Morgan City (7-16, 1-2) will continue district play Thursday when it hosts Donaldsonville in freshmen, junior varsity and varsity action. Action will begin at 3:30 p.m.
