Lady Tigers fall to North DeSoto, 4-3, via PKs

Staff Report

The Morgan City Lady Tigers soccer team gave No. 10 North Desoto all it wanted but fell 4-3 via penalty kicks in first-round Division III playoff action on the road Friday.
In regulation, the Lady Tigers got on the board first with a goal by Angie Sagastizado.
“This really motivated us,” Morgan City Coach Trevor Patterson said.
While both teams went on the attack, North DeSoto tied the score at 1 in the 30th minute.
While both teams had scoring opportunities in the second half, neither could score.
With the scored tied at 1 after regulation ended, the teams played two, 10-minute overtimes and an additional two five-minute sudden death overtimes but still were unable to break the tied score, forcing penalty kicks.
“This is something we practiced during the week, but practice is different after the tired legs and pressure during the end of a game,” Patterson said of penalty kicks.
North Desoto’s goal keeper recorded two saves and they outscored Morgan City, 4-3, for the win.
“This was the best game of the season for the Lady Tigers, and it was the 13 girls that traveled that made it that good,” Patterson said. “They all played their part, and it showed in the result.”
MCHS boys fall
The Morgan City High School boys soccer team fell at Lutcher, 6-0, Thursday in the first-round of the Division III playoffs.
The Bulldogs got two quick goals in the first half due to defense errors.
While Morgan City had numerous scoring chances in the second half, they could not find the back of the net.
“With us pushing up more the Bulldogs were able to counter attack and put another 4 goals in for the final 0 – 6,” Patterson said.
