Lumberjacks begin season with victory

The Patterson Lumberjacks started their season off with a 73-57 victory against Jeanerette Tuesday.
Patterson jumped out to a 14-8 lead after the first quarter and extended its lead to 31-20 at the half.
Jeanerette edged Patterson in the scoring column, 19-17, in the third quarter but trailed 50-37 after three quarters.
Patterson outscored Jeanerette 25-18 in the fourth period.
Patterson had four players in double figures led by 18 points from Taylan Grogan.
Also reaching double figures was Daylon Charlot, 16 points; Kenneth Washington, 15; and Nehemiah Augustus, 10.
Other scorers for Patterson included Mykel Jones, nine; and D.J. Jones, five.
Patterson will return to action Thursday in its tournament when it faces Carencro in the nightcap of the first day of the Lumberjack Invitational. The game is set for an 8 p.m. tip.
Central Catholic loses to H.L. Bourgeois
Central Catholic lost 62-47 to H.L. Bourgeois Tuesday.
The Eagles jumped out to a 17-10 lead at the end of the first quarter, Central Catholic coach Ree Case said.
Central Catholic kept the lead going into halftime, 32-24. By the end of the third quarter, the Eagles were hanging onto a 45-43 lead, but could not hang on as H.L. Bourgeois outscored Central Catholic 19-2 in the fourth quarter.
Leading scorers for the Eagles were Stefano Guarisco with 12 points and Samarick Paul and Jalen Johnson with 11 points each.
Central Catholic will play Morgan City at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Lumberjack Invitational.
Morgan City falls
to Plaquemine
The Morgan City Tigers fell at Plaquemine 50-29 Monday.
While Morgan City and Plaquemine were tied at nine after the first period, Plaquemine outscored Morgan City 25-4 during the second and third periods.
Plaquemine led 20-12 at halftime and then 34-13 after three quarters.
Morgan City outscored the Green Devils 16-14 in the final period.
Jaylen Jones led Morgan City with 10 points.
Other scorers included Tywaun Walker and Abram Hartley, each with five points; Brady Fryou, three; and Deondre Walker, Lloyd Singleton and Marvin Young, all with two.
The Tigers (6-3) will return to action Thursday when they begin action in Patterson’s Lumberjack Invitational with a 6:30 p.m. matchup against Central Catholic.
