Lumberjacks hold off Franklin, 62-59

I can’t say enough about the effort my guys played with last night.

The Patterson Lumberjacks held off the Franklin Hornets 62-59 in District 9-3A action Tuesday.
While Patterson trailed 15-9 after the third quarter, they outscored or matched Franklin’s point total in each of the next three quarters, taking a 32-31 lead into halftime and a 42-41 lead after three quarters before outscoring Franklin 20-18 in the final quarter.
“I can’t say enough about the effort my guys played with last night,” Patterson head coach Ryan Taylor said. “We started slow but Franklin had a lot to do with that. Franklin came out and took it right to us. But I was pleased with the response from my guys. I thought we got excellent play from our bench (Tuesday), and any time you can get that, you give yourself a chance to win.”
Nehemiah Augustus led Patterson with 21 points, while Jedrick Gunner also reached double figures with 11 points.
Other top contributors include Dontrell Benjamin, nine; Larry Turner, eight; and Daylon Charlot, six.
Patterson (13-4 overall, 3-1 in district) will return to action Friday when it travels to face Vandebilt Catholic in a nondistrict contest at 7 p.m.
Central Catholic defeats Vermillion Catholic
Central Catholic defeated Vermilion Catholic 54-47 in District 7-1A action in Abbeville Tuesday.
The Eagles had three players reach double figures with Nick Case scoring 17, Stefano Guarisco, 15 and Jalen Johnson, 11.
In junior varsity action, Central Catholic defeated Vermilion Catholic 45-28.
T.J. Ruffin led Central Catholic with 14 points, while Blake Byrne had 12 points.
Central Catholic (13-8, 7-1) will return to action Friday when it hosts Hanson Memorial in District 7-1A action in a 7 p.m. contest.
E.D. White 59,
Berwick, 18
E.D. White outscored Berwick in every quarter en route to a 59-18 victory.
While E.D. White led 16-7 after the first quarter, it extended it took full control in the second and third quarter, outscoring Berwick 34-7 for a commanding 50-14 lead after three quarters.
Brandon Naverro led Berwick with nine points, while Audwin Williams added eight.
Berwick (7-16, 0-4) will return to action Friday when it travels to face Franklin in a 7:30 p.m. contest.
