Lumberjills top Franklin, 55-46

The Patterson High School girls’ basketball team remained undefeated in District 9-3A play with a 55-46 victory against Franklin High Friday.
After both teams stayed close with each other in the first three quarters, Patterson pulled away in the final period for the win, outscoring Franklin 17-11.
“Friday’s game was the first time all year that we played a complete team game,” Patterson coach Tyler Olivier said.
He noted that Jazmin Evans, who led the Lumberjills with 22 points, had a big game against Franklin like she did a year ago, while Alex Benjamin connected on seven of eight free throws in the fourth quarter. She finished the game with 11 points.
“It was a big win for us as we approach our district games against Donaldsonville and E.D. White,” Olivier said.
Patterson will face Donaldsonville Friday and E.D. White next week.
In the Lumberjills’ game against Franklin, the visitors led 15-13 after the first period, while Patterson took a 21-17 lead into halftime.
Olivier said his squad had three starters in foul trouble early in the first half and backups Nyla Holder, Makayla Ruiz, Nia Broussard and Kemprielle Williams helped the Lumberjills overcome their foul trouble and enter halftime with the lead.
Franklin trailed 38-35 after three quarters before Patterson pulled away in the fourth.
Other scorers for Patterson included Nakia Brooks, nine points; Gaylen Grogan, six points; Williams, four points; and Erykah Singleton, three points.
Patterson (12-8 overall, 2-0 in district) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face Centerville in a nondistrict contest. Tipoff is set for approximately 6:30 p.m.
Morgan City defeats
St. James
The Morgan City Lady Tigers defeated St. James, 60-56, in nondistrict action Friday in Morgan City.
Casey Chenevert led the Lady Tigers with 26 points, while Laqwaijha Bourgeois had 15 points.
Other scorers for Morgan City included Meya Morse with five; Elicia Dorsey with four; Alisha Singleton, Twanna LeBeau, Indeara Chenevert, Nakerial Bourgeois, all with two points; and Steveyion Walker and Samyra Toups with a point apiece.
Morgan City (8-7, 1-1) will return to District 7-4A play Tuesday when it travels to face Ellender.
Berwick falls to E.D. White
E.D. White eased past Berwick, 74-4, in District 9-3A girls’ basketball action in Berwick Tuesday.
E.D. White, ranked No. 7 in the latest unofficial Louisiana High School Athletic Association power rankings, led 27-0 after the first quarter, 49-3 at halftime and 63-3 after three quarters.
Kaloni James led Berwick with two points, while Selena Percle and Nicole Johnson each scored a point.
Berwick (0-11, 0-2) will return to district play Tuesday when it hosts Franklin.
Central Catholic falls to
Ascension Episcopal
Central Catholic fell on the road to Ascension Episcopal, 44-19, in District 7-1A action Friday.
Ascension Episcopal took a 21-3 lead after the first quarter but Central Catholic responded with an 8-4 second quarter scoring advantage for a 25-11 halftime deficit.
Ascension Episcopal came out of the half with a 9-2 scoring advantage for a 34-13 lead after three quarters.
Hallie Autin led Central Catholic with 12 points, while Taylor Picou scored four points, Rebecca David, two points and Sydney Williams, a point.
Central Catholic (4-14, 1-4) will return to action Tuesday when it faces Lafayette Christian in District 7-1A play in Morgan City in a contest set for an approximate 6 p.m. tip.
