MCHS to face Crowley today

After a one-year hiatus, Morgan City High School is back in the Class 4A postseason.
The first task for the No. 22 seeded Tigers? Defeating No. 11 Crowley High.
Morgan City will get to attempt that opportunity today when the two teams meet in the bi-district round at Miller Field at 7 p.m.
The Tigers have been led this season by first-year coach Barret Rey, a former Grambling and Alcorn State head coach, who delved into high school coaching for the first time in his career this season.
“It’s quite an adjustment for myself, more so than the kids,” Rey said of this season.
However, the team also had to adjust to Rey’s coaching style.
“I think we’ve been able to hold our own,” he said. “We played quite a tough schedule this year, and I think the kids really responded to the schedule and (were) really consistent.”
Morgan City finished the regular season with a 13-15 mark and finished third in District 7-4A with a 6-4 record.
When Rey took the job, he said he wanted to get the program back to the level that former longtime Coach Tim Hymel had it.
Getting back to the playoffs after missing the postseason there is the first step in that direction.
“I think it is, most of all for the kids, because this is all for them,” Rey said. “As coaches, all we do is to try to put the kids in the right position to make the plays and do the best that they can do to enhance their ability on the field.”
Rey said he thought the coaching staff has done that and there now is a good foundation.
“Now it’s a matter of carrying it on and finishing the task at hand,” he said.
Morgan City’s postseason begins with a Crowley squad who finished the regular season with a 17-8 overall mark. The Gents were the District 3-4A runner-up with an 8-2 record.
Rey said Crowley is a good team that likes to steal plenty of bases and put the ball into play.
“I think with Rhett Fryou on the mound, that gives us a chance,” he said.
Crowley comes into today’s game with a two-game winning streak.
