MCHS girls defeat North Vermilion

The Morgan City High School Lady Tigers defeated North Vermilion, 42-40, in Morgan City’s home opener Monday.
Laqwaisha Bourgeois led Morgan City with 21 points, while Alisha Singleton also reached double figures with 10 points.
Other scorers for Morgan City included Steveyion Walker with four; Elicia Dorsey, three; and Meya Morse and Nakerial Bourgeois, two apiece.
Morgan City (2-3) will return to action Friday when it begins play in Centerville’s Tournament of the Teche against Central Catholic at 3:30 p.m.
Berwick falls to Kaplan
The Berwick Lady Panthers dropped their season opener to Kaplan, 54-17, Monday in Berwick.
Kaplan outscored Berwick in every quarter, taking a 12-6 lead after the first quarter and a 29-9 advantage at the half.
Kaplan held Berwick scoreless in the third quarter while adding 16 points to its lead for a 45-9 advantage before outscoring Berwick 9-6 in the final period.
Asia Jackson led Berwick with 13 points, while Brittany Boudreaux had three and Jenna Beiza, one.
Berwick (0-1) will return to action Friday when it opens play in Centerville’s Tournament of the Teche against Centerville in a 5 p.m. contest.
