MCHS to host Cohen today for homecoming

Morgan City will look to build upon its two-game winning streak when it hosts Cohen College Prep for homecoming Friday.
After falling to Berwick, 27-21, in its season opener, Morgan City has responded with back-to-back wins: a 7-0 victory against Sophie B. Wright and a 44-16 win against North Central a week ago.
The Tigers enter Friday’s game ranked No. 29 in the latest Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 4A power rankings, while Cohen is ranked No. 24 in Class 2A.
Cohen has yet to score a touchdown this season as the squad has been outscored a combined 138-0. Cohen fell 62-0 to Albany in Week 1, 34-0 to Northlake Christian in Week 2 and 42-0 to St. Helena last week.
A week ago, Morgan City got scores in all three phases of the game en route to the big victory.
In addition to two rushing touchdowns by senior Ethan Scioneaux, freshman Devonta Grogan and junior Trey Derouen each added a rushing touchdown. Grogan had a kickoff return for a touchdown, junior Logan Tingle recorded an interception return for a score, and the Tiger defense forced a safety.
Offensively, Scioneaux leads Morgan City’s run game with 33 carries for 167 yards and two scores.
Junior Isaiah Escort has passed for 259 yards. He has completed 15 of 32 passes with two touchdowns and four interceptions.
Junior Kalen Hillen leads Morgan City’s receivers with eight catches for 178 yards and one score.
As a team, Morgan City is averaging 213.7 yards a game on offense (126.7 rushing and 87 passing)
Defensively, Morgan City has surrendered 240 yards a game (156.3 rushing and 83.7 passing).
Friday’s game is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
