MCHS Lady Tiger tennis team is regional runner-up

The Morgan City Lady Tigers tennis team finished regional action as runner-up Tuesday at Renaissance Fitness Center in Houma.
Morgan City’s Harleigh Price advanced to the finals in singles play, but she had to withdraw in the second set due to injury/illness, Morgan City coach Kelly Jo Aucoin said. Price, who finished as regional runner-up to an opponent from Ben Franklin, had dropped the first set of the finals, 3-6.
Her journey to the finals included a first-round win, 6-0, 6-2, against an opponent from Ursuline Academy; a second-round victory against an opponent from Ben Franklin, 6-2, 7-5; and a semifinal win against an opponent from Assumption, 6-2, 4-2.
Price’s teammate, Niki Ring, fell in the semifinals at regionals but still qualified for state in singles action.
In the first round, Ring defeated an opponent from South Lafourche, 6-0, 6-0, while in the second round, she topped an opponent from South Terrebonne, 7-5, 6-2. In the semifinals, she fell to an opponent from Ben Franklin, 2-6, 0-6.
In girls doubles action, Morgan City’s Krystina Pitre and Bailee Hoggatt fell in the semifinals but still qualified for state.
While the duo received a first-round bye, they defeated a team from South Terrebonne in the second round, 6-3, 6-0; and a team from Ursuline, 6-0, 6-3, before falling to a team from Assumption, 6-8, 6-3, 5-7, in the semifinals.
In other girls doubles action, Morgan City’s Jolee Nini and Caylee Deshotel fell in the first round to a team from Ben Franklin, 3-6, 2-6; while Morgan City’s Emily LaCoste and Katelyn Gautreaux drew a first-round bye before falling to a team from Ursuline Academy, 4-6, 3-6.
In boys action, Morgan City’s singles participants, Brandon Rock and Blake Singleton, each fell 0-6, 0-6. Rock fell to an opponent from South Terrebonne, while Singleton dropped his contest to a foe from South Lafourche.
In boys double action, Tyler Hebert and Zach Ingram lost 3-6, 4-6 to a team from South Terrebonne.
Morgan City’s qualifiers for state will return to action Monday when they begin play at the Division II state tennis tournament in Monroe. The tournament will conclude Tuesday.
