MCHS soccer teams beat Gators

The Morgan City boys and girls soccer teams both defeated South Terrebonne Wednesday by scores of 5-1 and 4-0, respectively.
The Tigers first goal came in the 32nd minute after a Sergize Flores’ corner kick connected with Daniel Alvarado. Two minutes later Flores broke loose and scored. Shortly before halftime, the South Terrebonne Gators got one in down the middle from our defense basically sleeping, half time 2-1. In the second half, Flores scored in the 43rd minute and scored another goal six minutes later to complete the hat trick.
Irving Delgado secured the win in the 72nd minute, chipping the ball over the goalie’s head, final 5-1.
Morgan City Head Coach Trevor Patterson said the boys dominated the game. “With three different goal scorers, the Tigers are capable of doing very well this season,” Patterson said.
“The (South Terrebonne) Gators have some club players on both sides that play year round, which are more than us. Plus their roster size also helps to keep fresh legs in the game. So games like this really tell us where we fall with similar schools, and last night we excelled above my expectations,” Patterson said.
The Lady Tigers’ Celeste Williams scored all four goals for the team. However, all the players contributed to the win, Patterson said.
“Our goalie Layne Reynaud went home after trying to stick it out having a stomach bug and had to leave the field twice before leaving at half to go rest. Chandler Pasqua stepped up and filled in for Reynaud and did a great job behind our solid defense,” he said.
Williams’ first goal was in the 14th minute from a Gators defense error where she crossed the face of the goal and shot with her left, in the 24th min Sarah Patterson delivered Williams a ball down the middle where she took on two defenders and scored. In the 29th minute, Williams was awarded a penalty kick and struck it on target for her hat-trick.
In the 50th minute, Patterson connected again with Williams for the final goal to secure the 4-1 win.
