MCHS soccer teams fall in 1st round

The Morgan City High School soccer teams were eliminated from Division 2 postseason play on the road this weekend as the Lady Tigers fell to Bolton 3-1 Friday and the Tigers, 2-1, to North DeSoto on Saturday.
In Saturday’s bi-district contest, No. 16 seed North DeSoto was granted a late penalty kick that it converted to break a 1-1 tie for the win against the No. 17 seed Tigers (9-9-2)
Morgan City coach Trevor Patterson was not happy about the situation.
“It was a shame for it to end like that,” Patterson said. “It’s not normal for a referee to call a penalty that close to (the end of) regulation time unless it was a blatant call, which (it) was still unclear who caused the foul.”
Early on, Morgan City fell behind 1-0 in the first half, and while the Griffins continued to pressure Morgan City, the Tigers settled in and tied the game on Miquel Perez’s goal before halftime.
The second half was a gridlock for both teams.
“The second half was a nail biter (with) both teams having some great chances and close calls,” Patterson said.
Bolton 3, Morgan City 1
On Friday, the No. 17 seed Lady Tigers traveled to Alexandria to face No. 16 seed Bolton in Division 2 bi-district action.
Bolton scored early following a dropped ball in the Lady Tigers’ box, while it added another goal in the first half after another ball in the Morgan City box was knocked in for a goal.
The Lady Tigers (10-14) cut the lead to 2-1 in the second half on Sarah Patterson’s goal over the goalie’s head.
While coach Trevor Patterson said both the Lady Tigers and Bolton had opportunities to score, Bolton was the only one who could net another goal for the final.
“It was a good game, but in the end, it was Bolton that seemed to play just above us and wanted the win more,” he said.
