MCHS splits doubleheader with South Terrebonne

Morgan City High School split a District 7-4A doubleheader with South Terrebonne Wednesday, falling 2-1 in game 1 in nine innings before taking game 2, 8-2.
In game 1, Morgan City took a 1-0 lead in the top of the sixth, while South Terrebonne rallied in the bottom of the seventh with a run on a Morgan City error.
The score remained the same until South Terrebonne scored a run in the bottom of the ninth inning on an attempt at a fielder’s choice attempt at third base that was unsuccessful for the third out of the inning.
While Morgan City’s coaches thought the runner was out on the play, the umpires conferred and upheld the ruling.
Ethan Scioneaux suffered the loss for Morgan City. In eight innings (he faced one batter in the ninth), he surrendered two runs — one earned — on just two hits but walked five. He fanned six.
At the plate, Morgan City had just three hits. Alex Brocato was 1-for-3 with a run, while Abram Hartley was 1-for-3 and Morquiss Charles, 1-for-4.
In game two, Morgan City broke the game open with a six-run sixth inning.
While Morgan City scored a run in the third and another in the fifth, South Terrebonne came back with two runs in the top of the sixth to tie the game.
However, Morgan City responded with six runs in the bottom of the frame.
Morgan City had just four hits in game two, led by Hartley’s 2-for-3 performance with a double and two runs.
On the mound, Rhett Fryou tossed a three hitter. In a complete-game effort, he surrendered two runs (one earned), one walk, and struck out seven.
Morgan City (11-12 overall, 6-2 district) will return to action Saturday when it hosts Vandebilt Catholic in District 7-4A action. Junior varsity action is set for a noon start with varsity to follow at 2 p.m.
