The Morgan City High School boys’ soccer team has qualified for the Division III postseason and will travel to face Lutcher today in first-round action in a 7 p.m. contest.
Morgan City (8-17-1, overall, 1-9 in District 7-III) enters the postseason as the No. 20 seed, while Lutcher (12-10-1, 6-4) is the No. 13 seed.
“Our team is good,” Morgan City Soccer Coach Trevor Patterson said. “Unfortunately, we don’t play as a team. We’ll practice like a team, but when the boys get out there, they have that independent-that-I-want-to-play-by-myself kind of thing.”
Thursday’s meeting will be the third time this season the two schools have played as Lutcher won both regular season matches in District 7-III play by scores of 6-3 and 3-0.
Aryton Stein, a senior, is a player to look out for on the Bulldogs’ roster. Stein scored four goals against Morgan City in the win at Lutcher, and he scored when the teams met in Morgan City.
“That’s going to be one person we’re going to have to be sure we shut down,” Patterson said.
He’s a forward and he is fast and tall.
While Morgan City has dropped two games to Lutcher this season, Patterson said his team can beat the Bulldogs.
“Unfortunately, playing at their home field, that turf, they play so much quicker on it. … They know how to use that turf to their advantage,” he said.
Lutcher has won two straight entering the postseason, while Morgan City has dropped three straight contests.
