MCHS Tigers will host Westminster Friday

Morgan City will host Westminster Christian Friday in a contest that the Tigers have anticipated for some time.
A year ago, Westminster came back from a 14-0 deficit at home and forced overtime with Morgan City with the game tied at 21 at the end of regulation.
In overtime, the Crusaders defeated Morgan City, 28-21, for homecoming.
That loss began a six-game losing streak for Morgan City, including five straight District 7-4A losses, that dashed any hopes the Tigers had of making the postseason following a 4-0 start to the season.
“We marked this game on our calendar from the day last year,” Morgan City Coach Scott Tregle said. “All summer we’ve talked about it. I told them after the game Friday night that this is a week we have to redeem (ourselves). I thought this game last year turned our season around for the worse, and hopefully this Friday it will turn our season around for the better.”
Ironically, this year, Westminster (2-2) comes to Morgan City following a 35-28 homecoming victory in overtime against Ascension Christian a week ago.
Westminster’s Cole Fournet intercepted Ascension Christian’s quarterback in overtime to preserve the victory.
Westminster totaled 344 yards of offense, five rushing touchdowns and had two 100-yard rushers a week ago. Fournet led the squad with 22 carries for 177 yards, while running back Landon Trosclair added 15 carries for 103 yards.
Fullback Ken Jones, who had a huge game against Morgan City a year ago, had four rushing touchdowns (including the game winner) and caught another touchdown from quarterback Kaleb Prudhomme last week. Prudhomme completed nine of 11 pass attempts for 124 yards.
Tregle said Jones is Westminster’s best player.
“He’s definitely a Division 1 prospect,” Tregle said. “He’s about 6-2, 220. He can run. He punts for them. He kicks for them. He plays defense. He plays fullback, tailback, tight end, wide receiver, so he’s everywhere.”
Tregle said Westminster is multiple on offense.
“We’re going to just try to put pressure on their offense,” Tregle said. “Put a lot of guys in the box and force them to throw, because last year they ran on us.”
Morgan City enters this week after a dominating 29-0 homecoming victory against Cohen a week ago. Morgan City held Cohen to minus-10 yards of offense and without a first down. Cohen’s furthest movement down the field was to its 40-yard line.
As for this Friday’s game, Tregle said students will be allowed into Friday’s game for $1 with a student ID.
