MCHS volleyball falls to St. Martinville in four sets

Morgan City High School fell to St. Martinville 3-1 (26-28, 25-23, 13-25, 22-25) in high school volleyball action at St. Martinville Thursday.
Abby Reynaud led Morgan City with three kills, 16 assists, two aces, two digs and one solo block. Other top contributors included Sh’Diamond Holly, 10 kills, one solo block and one dig; Katelyn Gautreaux, 21 digs; Nia Lightfoot, seven kills and one solo block; Mckenzi Smith, four kills, two aces and two digs; and Brandi Albarado, six digs.
In junior varsity action, Morgan City fell 2-0 (25-11, 25-16).
Lightfoot led Morgan City with three kills, one ace, three digs and two solo blocks. Other top contributors included Jolee Nini, six assists and one ace; and Jamia Francois, three kills.
In freshman action, Morgan City fell 2-0 (25-5, 25-23).
Deryon Johnson led Morgan City with three kills and one ace, while Daysha Tivet added two aces and one dig.
Last week, Morgan City finished 1-3 at Assumption’s Tournament. Morgan City fell to University Lab Thursday, and won one of two games Saturday, defeating Ascension Catholic but falling to Sam Houston and Thibodaux.
On Thursday against U-High, Morgan City fell 2-0 (25-22, 25-19).
On Saturday, Morgan City fell to Sam Houston 2-0 (25-21, 25-14), lost to Thibodaux 2-0 (25-19, 25-17) and beat Ascension Catholic 2-1 (21-25, 25-22, 15-5).
No individual stats were available from the U-High match.
Against Sam Houston, Holly had five kills and one block. Other top contributors included Reynaud, one ace and eight assists; Peterson, three kills, one block and one dig; and Albarado, three digs.
Against Thibodaux, Holly had five kills and three solo blocks. Other top contributors included Reynaud, eight assists; Gautreaux, one ace and four digs; and Albarado, four digs.
Against Ascension Catholic, a Division V semifinalist in 2015, Holly led Morgan City with four kills and six solo blocks. Other top contributors included Reynaud, eight assists, two aces and one dig; and Gautreaux, three aces and six digs.
Morgan City (1-6) will return to action Tuesday when it hosts Delcambre.
CCHS splits
tournament games
Central Catholic split its games at H.L. Bourgeois’ tournament Thursday, defeating Ellender 2-0 (25-13, 25-20) but falling to Pope John 2-0 (25-18, 25-16).
Against Ellender, Hallie Autin led Central Catholic with 10 kills, two aces and seven digs. Other top contributors included Katie Hoffpauir, 10 assists, five aces and one dig; Taylor Picou, eight assists and two digs; Sydney Williams, two kills, one assist and two solo blocks; Brooke Lipari, two kills, one ace and five digs; and Bayli Scully, two aces and one dig.
Against Pope John Paul II, Yani Johnson led Central Catholic with five kills and six solo blocks. Other top contributors included Hoffpauir, eight assists, one ace and four digs; Quincee Wiggins, eight digs; Lipari, one ace and five digs; and Williams, one kill, one solo block and one block assist.
Central Catholic (8-3) will return to action Saturday at H.L. Bourgeois’ tournament when it faces St. Amant, a Division I quarterfinalist a year ago, at 9 a.m.
Berwick falls to
South Terrebonne
Berwick gave South Terrebonne a competitive game, but fell in straight sets (30-28, 26-24, 25-19).
As a team, Berwick totaled 35 kills and 100 digs.
Alyssa Gray led Berwick with one ace, five kills, one block, 10 assists and 20 digs. Other top contributors included Mary Jordan Melancon, three kills, one block, 12 assists and 15 digs; Sydney Aucoin, 11 kills and two digs; Rosalyn Gros, two aces and 20 digs; Jordan Lipari, one ace, four kills, three assists and seven digs; Lauren Skinner, nine kills and five digs; Brittany Roberie, 19 digs; Emma Hover, one ace and 11 digs; and Ryleigh Arnold, three kills, two blocks and one dig.
Berwick (1-7) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face Ellender. Junior varsity action is set for a 4 p.m. start with varsity to follow at 5 p.m. and freshman action at 6 p.m.
