MCHS volleyball sweeps Ascension Catholic

Morgan City High School defeated Ascension Catholic 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-10) in prep volleyball action in Morgan City Monday.
Morgan City had 30 kills and six solo blocks.
Sh’diamond Holly led Morgan City with 15 kills and four solo blocks. Other top contributors included Abby Reynaud, 19 assists, four digs and one solo block; Mckenzi Smith, five kills, two aces and six digs; Karmen Peterson, eight kills, two digs and one solo block; and Katelyn Gautreaux, 11 digs.
In junior varsity action, Morgan City defeated Ascension Catholic 2-0 (25-15, 25-19).
Morgan City had nine aces and four solo blocks.
Smith led Morgan City with three kills, four assists, two aces and two digs. Other top contributors included Peterson, one kill, four aces, four digs and one solo block; Hallie Blanchard, three kills, one ace and one dig; Deryon Johnson, three kills and one ace; and Nia Lightfoot, three solo blocks.
In freshman action, Morgan City fell 2-0 (25-10, 26-24).
Morgan City had nine aces and three solo blocks.
Jamia Francois led Morgan City with three kills, three digs and two solo blocks. Other top contributors included Sarajane Nini, one kill, four assists, one ace and one dig; Johnson, two kills, four aces and one solo block; Randasha Grogan, two kills, two aces and two digs; and Sariayah Bourgeois, two aces and one dig.
Morgan City (4-10) will return to action today when it opens District 8-III play at Berwick. Freshman action is set for a 3:30 p.m. start with junior varsity to follow at 4:30 p.m. and varsity at 5:30 p.m.
CCHS goes 4-2 at Riverdale Tourney
The Central Catholic Lady Eagles finished 4-2 this weekend at Riverdale’s tournament.
Friday, the squad defeated Lutheran 2-0 (25-8, 25-9) and Riverdale 2-1 (25-10, 26-28, 15-7).
Saturday, Central Catholic fell to Riverside 2-0 (25-21, 25-11), defeated St. Martin’s Episcopal 2-1 (18-25, 25-22, 15-11) and topped Destrehan 2-1 (23-25, 25-19, 15-4), before falling to Riverside Academy 2-0 (27-25, 25-19).
No individual statistics were available.
Central Catholic (17-9) will return to action today when it hosts John Curtis.
