Morgan City High School will continue District 7-4A action Friday when it travels to face Ellender in Bourg.
The Tigers will be looking to bounce back from last week’s 59-0 defeat to South Lafourche in both teams’ district opener in Morgan City.
Morgan City couldn’t get much going offensively last week as the squad was limited to negative total yardage, mostly due to sacks and a botched snap on a punt attempt.
This week, Morgan City (3-3 overall, 0-1 in district) will face an Ellender squad that is 4-2 overall but 0-1 in District 7-4A also. A week ago, Ellender dropped its district opener, 44-40, to Assumption.
Ellender mounted a big comeback attempt last week as the squad trailed 44-20 with about eight minutes remaining.
The Patriots are led by Tulane commitment Davontavean Martin, who has run the ball, passed it and caught receptions this season. Martin has 55 carries for 422 yards and two touchdowns. He has completed 20 of 61 pass attempts for 358 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions. He also has caught 18 passes for 319 yards and five scores.
Another threat for the Patriots is Reginald Williams. Williams has 49 carries for 340 yards and five touchdowns and has caught 19 passes for 293 yards and two scores.
Colby Poe is the team’s leading passer as he has completed 35 of 73 pass attempts for 632 yards with 10 touchdowns and six interceptions.
Arvie Rice is Ellender’s top receiver with 16 catches for 383 yards and five touchdowns.
Morgan City is led this season by freshman Devonta Grogan, who has rushed 31 times for 281 yards and three touchdowns.
Senior Ethan Scioneaux has added 51 carries for 229 yards and two scores.
Through the air, junior Isaiah Escort leads Morgan City with 293 yards. He has completed 19 of 55 passes with two touchdowns and five interceptions.
A week ago, junior Alex Brocato also saw time at quarterback. Brocato has completed 5 of 19 pass attempts for 56 yards this season.
The Tigers’ top receiver this season is junior Kalen Hillen, who has hauled in 10 catches for 228 yards and two scores.
Friday’s game, set for a 7 p.m. kickoff, will be played at South Terrebonne High School. South Terrebonne and Ellender share a stadium.
