More high school schedule changes

Staff Report

All games Tuesday were wiped out due to inclement weather, and one today has been cancelled while another, postponed.
Berwick High’s softball contest at Lutcher today has been cancelled, meaning the Lady Panthers now will await their playoff seeding Thursday.
Berwick already had its contest Tuesday with Catholic High-New Iberia cancelled due to inclement weather.
Berwick was the No. 22 seed, according to the latest unofficial Louisiana High School Athletic Association power rankings released Tuesday, and the Lady Panthers likely will be on the road for the first round of the playoffs.
Meanwhile, Central Catholic’s District 7-1A baseball contest against Vermilion Catholic, which had been postponed from Tuesday to today, now has been moved to Monday.
The Eagles’ scheduled 6 p.m. contest Monday with Patterson at Nicholls State has been cancelled. The game wouldn’t have been able to be played anyway because Nicholls is making up a game at home Monday, Central Catholic coach Tyler Jensen said.
Central Catholic will return to action Thursday when it travels to face Hanson Memorial in a key District 7-1A contest set for a 6 p.m. start. Hanson is 7-0 in district, while Central Catholic is one game behind at 6-1, suffering its lone loss in district play to the Tigers last month.
As for other makeup games, Morgan City and Ellender will hit the field today for a 4 p.m. contest, their final District 7-4A softball game of the year. The two teams were rained out Tuesday.
However, instead of playing the game in Houma, the game will be played at Shaw Park in Morgan City.
Also, Central Catholic’s softball team will travel to face Lafayette Christian today in a 4 p.m. contest. That game was rained out Tuesday, too.
With a win, the Lady Eagles can clinch at least a share of the District 7-1A title.
Both Morgan City and Central Catholic, which were ranked sixth and third in Classes 4A and 1A, respectively, according to the latest unofficial power rankings, will host first round playoff games regardless of today’s outcomes.
Patterson High School’s softball contest at home against Centerville High School Tuesday also was rained out.
The Lumberjills now will await postseason brackets. Patterson is No. 29 in the latest unofficial rankings.
On the baseball diamond, Patterson and Berwick high schools will meet today at 6 p.m. in a makeup of Tuesday’s rainout. The game is a District 9-3A contest. No junior varsity action will be held.
In other baseball action, Morgan City is set to play Tuesday’s rainout contest today at either 4 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. at South Terrebonne. The game is a District 7-4A contest.
