Morgan City beats Plaquemine, 57-49

Three players reached double figures as Morgan City defeated Plaquemine, 57-49, at White Castle’s tournament Monday.
While Plaquemine outscored Morgan City 16-13 in the opening period, Morgan City countered with a 20-13 second-quarter advantage for a 33-29 halftime lead.
The Tigers extended their lead to 50-36 after three quarters.
The Tigers had five three pointers in the win, led by three from Deondre Grogan. Grogan led the team with 14 points. Other scorers included Jared Singleton and Makye Richard, 11 points apiece; Taaj Daniels, nine; Kerwin Francois, seven; and Ke’Sean Francois and Morrquise Charles, two each.
Morgan City (2-0) will return to action in the tournament Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. when it faces the winner of the Capital-White Castle contest.
Berwick routs
Catholic High-New Iberia
Berwick outscored Catholic High-New Iberia in every quarter en route to a 61-38 victory in opening round action at Ascension Episcopal’s tournament Monday.
The game was Berwick’s season opener.
The Panthers led Catholic High 13-5 after a quarter and 28-13 at halftime.
Berwick extended its lead after the third quarter to 44-20.
Travis Whitehead led Berwick with 24 points. Other scorers included Cody Roberie, nine; Josh Carver, eight; Patrick Robertson and Tysin Meads, six points apiece; and Larenz Clark and Donald Tillman, four points each.
With Monday’s win, Berwick (1-0) advances to the tournament semifinals where it will face Episcopal School of Acadiana, which is 8-0, at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
CCHS Lady Eagles defeat
Lake Charles College Prep
Central Catholic earned its first win of the season with a 51-35 victory against Lake Charles College Prep Monday at Lafayette Christian’s tournament.
Hallie Autin led Central Catholic with 24 points, while Yani Johnson added 20. Taylor Picou scored five points in the win.
Central Catholic (1-1) returned to action at the tournament Tuesday at 11:15 a.m. against Washington-Marion.
