Morgan City defeats Thibodaux in softball

The Morgan City Lady Tigers opened their season with a 7-4 victory on the road Monday against Thibodaux High.
In a game that featured five lead changes, Morgan City took the lead for good in the top of the third inning after Kennedy Hebert stole home.
Morgan City added to its lead in the top of the fourth with two more runs via a Hebert sacrifice fly that scored Brooke Deshotel and a Katelyn Alvarez single that plated Aliya Green.
Morgan City took the game’s first lead at 1-0 in the top of the first, but Thibodaux came back with three runs in the bottom of the frame.
Tyler Hebert earned the win for the Lady Tigers. In seven innings, she surrendered four runs (one earned) on six hits with two walks and fanned 11.
Offensively, Alvarez led the team with a 2-for-3 performance with a double, three RBIs, a run and four stolen bases.
Other top contributors included Green, 2-for-3, a double, two runs and two stolen bases; Tyler Hebert, 2-for-5, a double and a run; Celestina Williams, 2-for-5, a run; and Kennedy Hebert, 1-for-3, an RBI, a run and three stolen bases.
Morgan City (1-0) will return to action Thursday when it hosts H.L. Bourgeois in a 4 p.m. contest.
Patterson, Berwick
games postponed
Patterson’s and Berwick’s season openers Monday were postponed.
The Lumberjills’ contest with Central Lafourche, which was scheduled to be played at Patterson, now will be held March 16 at Patterson.
The Lumberjills now will open their season today at H.L. Bourgeois in a 4 p.m. contest.
Meanwhile, Berwick’s contest Monday at New Iberia has been rescheduled for Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. in New Iberia.
Berwick now will open its season today at Ascension Catholic in a 4:30 p.m. contest.
