Morgan City finishes weekend 2-1, Berwick, 1-2

Morgan City High School finished 2-1 in Berwick’s Panther Classic this weekend, defeating St. James and Lutcher, but falling to E.D. White.
On Friday, Morgan City routed St. James, 15-0.
The Tigers scored four runs in the first inning, five each in the second and third, and four in the fourth.
In the second game Friday, Morgan City fell to E.D. White, 9-3.
E.D. White scored a run in the top of the first, and Morgan City tied it with a run in the bottom of the frame.
However, E.D. White scored eight runs during the next three innings for a 9-1 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth.
Morgan City scored a run in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings.
On Saturday against Lutcher, the Tigers came from behind for the win, plating the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
Morgan City did all of its damage in the last two innings, tying the game in the bottom of the sixth with three runs before the walk-off win in the bottom of the seventh.
Lutcher took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first and scored another run in the fifth.
Morgan City outhit Lutcher 7-6.
No individual statistics were available for any of the Tigers’ games.
Morgan City (3-5) will return to action today when it travels to take on Zachary High at Nicholls State in a 5 p.m. contest.
Berwick finishes
the weekend 1-2
Berwick High School finished 1-2 at its tournament this weekend, defeating Catholic High-New Iberia Friday and falling to Lutcher and Brusly Saturday.
In Friday’s contest, the Panthers rallied for the victory with four runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Berwick trailed as much as 6-1 after three innings before plating five runs in the fourth to tie the game at 6.
While Catholic High took an 8-6 lead in the top of the sixth, Berwick scored four runs in the bottom of the frame for a 10-8 lead that was the final.
Berwick overcame five errors for the victory.
Grant Oubre, the third of three pitchers used, earned the win for Berwick. In 1.2 innings, he fanned three.
Bradley Gray started the game for Berwick. In four innings, he surrendered six runs — one earned — on six hits with one walk, one hit batter and five strikeouts.
As a pitching staff, Berwick had eight strikeouts.
Offensively, D.J. Robicheaux led the squad with a 2-for-2 performance with a double.
On Saturday morning, Berwick fell to Lutcher, 3-2.
Lutcher scored all of its runs in the first two innings, plating a run in the top of the first and two in the top of the second for a 3-0 lead.
Berwick scored both its runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Gray led Berwick with a 2-for-2 performance. Other top hitters included Cameron Wiley, 1-for-2 with a double; and Brandon Fryou, 1-for-4 with a double.
Austin Price suffered the loss for Berwick. In 6.2 innings, he surrendered three runs — one earned — on seven hits with one walk and fanned five.
In the Panthers’ finale Saturday, the squad fell to Brusly 14-4.
No individual statistics were available.
Berwick (3-6) will return to action today when it travels to face Central Lafourche in a 6 p.m. contest.
Patterson falls
to Loreauville
The Patterson Lumberjacks fell 7-3 to Loreauville in Hanson’s tournament Saturday.
Loreauville took a 1-0 lead after an inning, and while Patterson tied the score at 1 in the top of the second, Loreauville exploded for four runs in the bottom of the frame for a 5-1 lead.
Patterson cut its deficit to 5-3 in the top of the fourth, but Loreauville got the runs back in the bottom of the fifth.
Patterson had four errors in the loss.
Joel Singleton suffered the loss. In 4.2 innings, he surrendered seven runs — five earned — on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
Offensively, Brad Beaubouef led Patterson with a 2-for-3 performance with three RBIs, while Jamey Fabre was 2-for-3.
Patterson (3-4) will return to action today when it hosts St. James in a 6:30 p.m. contest.
