Morgan City High falls to South Terrebonne

The Morgan City High School Tigers jumped out early against South Terrebonne, but the Gators slowly clawed their way back into the ballgame and eventually took a 5-3 victory in District 7-4A action Wednesday.
Morgan City scored three runs in the top of the first inning via a one-out, two-run double to center field by Matt Lorenzo and a ground out by Brady Fryou to shortstop.
South Terrebonne plated a run in the bottom of the second on a single.
The score remained the same until the bottom of the fifth when South Terrebonne connected on a double to deep left field to score one run and a sacrifice fly to centerfield tied the game at 3.
With runners at second and third in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Gators laid down a squeeze bunt that was mishandled by Nick Spinella and the go-ahead run scored.
The last run scored on a ball hit to third base.
Grant Perry suffered the loss for Morgan City. In five complete innings (he faced one batter in the sixth), he surrendered four runs on four hits with three walks and fanned two.
In relief, Spinella surrendered a run on a hit with a strikeout in an inning of work.
Offensively, Morgan City’s John Ross McNemar finished 2-for-4 with a double, while Lorenzo was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Brady Fryou was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Morgan City (10-12 overall, 5-3 in district) will return to action Thursday when it faces Vandebilt Catholic in Houma in a 6 p.m. contest.
CCHS game rescheduled
Central Catholic’s District 7-1A contest with Hanson has been rescheduled for Thursday at 3 p.m. in Amelia. Only a varsity contest will be played.
The original contest Monday was rained out.
The Eagles will continue District 7-1A play today at 6 p.m. at Ascension Episcopal.
