Morgan City High School will head to West Ouachita

The Morgan City Lady Tigers enter the Class 4A basketball postseason having won seven of their last nine games to close out the regular season.
The squad, the No. 24 seed, certainly hopes to keep that momentum going in the first round when they meet No. 9 West Ouachita in a 6 p.m. contest.
Since falling to Vandebilt Catholic 45-32 at home on Jan. 9, Morgan City has reeled off wins in seven of its last nine games, falling only twice to Ellender, the District 7-4A champion and No. 8 seed in the Class 4A postseason.
During their win streak, Morgan City (13-9) defeated Class 4A’s No. 21 seed, Assumption, twice and avenged the loss to Vandebilt Catholic with a win in Houma.
Morgan City coach Taylor Clark attributed the late-season surge to “just strictly playing together as a team.”
Clark said this season has had highs and lows but her team has impressed her.
“We started the season with several different personalities all trying to come together as one,” Clark said. “We have had a lot of success both on and off the court with the girls getting on board with where I’m wanting to take this program. I’ve set a number of standards and they know that I do that in order to get the best out of them.”
Clark said she is proud of her team because they have grown.
As for their opponent, West Ouachita finished tied with Bastrop for first place in District 2-4A with identical 6-2 marks.
The Lady Chiefs concluded their regular season with a 23-9 mark, including four straight victories to close out the regular season.
“West Ouachita is an excellent team with a very disciplined structure,” Clark said Tuesday. “I look forward to seeing how my girls respond and watch how they implement what we’ve covered over the past two days. These girls have a lot of heart, and they leave everything out on the floor every time they compete.”
Clark said all she asks of her team is to play for each other and for their school.
“If they execute the offenses and work hard on defense, we will definitely give West Ouachita a run for their money,” Clark said.
