Morgan City to meet North Central Friday

Morgan City will look to win its second straight contest Friday when it hosts North Central Friday in a 7 p.m. contest.
The game follows a 7-0 victory against Sophie B. Wright a week ago.
While Morgan City (1-1) was limited to just 213 yards of offense due to what Coach Scott Tregle characterized as the Tigers’ mistakes, the Tigers defense had their back as they limited Sophie B. Write to 149 yards off offense.
Morgan City sacked Sophie B. Wright quarterbacks seven times, had one interception and recovered two fumbles.
This week’s opponent, North Central (0-2), runs a spread tight-end set from the pistol and try to run the ball via counters, sweeps and zone plays, Tregle said.
While he said North Central can move the ball, he said they make mistakes similar to Sophie B. Wright to stall drives.
“They do have better athletes than they did last year, and the team is bigger as far as number wise,” Tregle said of North Central.
Tregle said North Central has a good running back, sophomore Wilshawn Williams, who has good speed.
“He’s a solid player,” Tregle said. “He can play for anybody.”
Defensively, Tregle said North Central will line up in a 50 defense and also utilize a four-man front.
“It just depends on what you were doing,” Tregle said. “Against Centerville’s Wing T, they were in a six-man front. Against us, they’re probably going to be in a five-man front.”
However, Tregle said North Central would not be able to “matchup” with Morgan City in the second half.
“A lot of kids are going to get to play this week, and our goal is to get everybody to play,” Tregle said.
Tregle said his team needs reps for his junior varsity after their game last week was rained out, coupled with no junior varsity game scheduled for this week.
He also noted a need to get the Tigers’ front-line players healthy for district play.
North Central fell to Centerville, 34-0, a week ago and dropped its week 1 contest to South Cameron, 40-14.
Morgan City’s lone touchdown a week ago came via a Keith Henderson 52-yard reception from quarterback Isaiah Escort. Escort passed for 113 yards with a touchdown and an interception last week.
This season, Escort has completed 14 of 27 passes for 233 yards with two touchdowns and four interceptions.
Ethan Scioneaux leads the Tigers ground game with 97 yards, while Kalen Hillen is the Tigers’ top receiver with 152 yards and one touchdown.
