Morgan City run-rules Ellender
The Morgan City Tigers run-ruled Ellender 13-3 in six innings Thursday.
Morgan City jumped out early with five runs in the bottom of the first inning and by the bottom of the fifth inning, its lead had been extended to 10-3.
Morgan City ended the game in the bottom of the sixth inning with three runs for the 10-run rule victory.
Morgan City achieved a first this season in the victory.
“It’s the first time we’ve been able to put wins together after playing the night before,” Morgan City assistant coach Tim Vidos said.
Rhett Fryou earned the win for the Tigers. In six innings he surrendered three runs — one earned — on four hits with three walks and fanned one.
“Rhett pitched very well,” Vidos said. “Rhett isn’t a strike out pitcher, but he gets you ground balls and gives your defense a chance to make the play; that’s all you need to win defensively.”
Offensively, Matt Lorenzo finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs for the Tigers, while Brady Fryou was 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI. Other top contributors included Evan Stadalis, 1-for-3, a double and an RBI; Abram Hartley and Gavin Spiese, each 1-for-3 with two RBIs; and Grant Perry, 1-for-4, an RBI.
Morgan City (10-10 overall, 5-1 in district) will end its week with a home district contest against South Terrebonne. Junior varsity action will begin at 2 p.m. with varsity to follow at 4 p.m.
“Our task at hand now is to try to end the week with a third straight win against South Terrebonne,” Vidos said. “This may be the biggest game of the year for us.”
Berwick run-rules
Donaldsonville
Berwick pitches limited Donaldsonville to one hit, while its offense accounted for 12 runs in a 12-1 run-rule win against Donaldsonville in five innings Thursday.
Berwick scored in every inning except the third, plating three runs in the first, two in the second and six more in the fourth for an 11-0 lead.
Donaldsonville scored a run in the bottom of the fourth, while Berwick added another run in the top of the fifth.
Berwick pitchers Daniel Gray and Andrew Askew combined to surrender just one infield hit, fanned 12 and walked one.
Gray earned the win for the Panthers. In four innings, he surrendered a run on a hit with a walk and fanned 10.
In an inning of relief, Askew fanned two.
Offensively, Nick Duthu led the Panthers with a 2-for-4 performance with two doubles and three RBIs, while Neal Theriot was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Other top contributors included Micah Soileau, 1-for-3, two RBIs; Cameron Wiley and Gray, each 1-for-3 with an RBI; while Bobby Boudreaux was 1-for-3 with a double.
Berwick (14-8 overall, 4-0) will return to action Tuesday when it plays at Patterson with junior varsity beginning at 4 p.m. and varsity following at 6 p.m.
CCHS run-rules
Highland Baptist
The Central Catholic Eagles run-ruled Highland Baptist 13-1 in District 7-1A action in Amelia Thursday.
The Eagles plated four runs in the second, five in the third and four more in the fourth for a commanding 13-0 lead.
Highland Baptist plated its lone run in the top of the fifth.
Central Catholic outhit Highland Baptist 14-2.
Matthew Barbier led the Eagles with a 3-for-4 performance with a double, four RBIs and a run, while Stefano Guarisco was 3-for-3 with three runs and two stolen bases.
Other top contributors for the Eagles were Barron Courtney, 2-for-3, a double and two RBIs; Sage Thibodaux, 2-for-2, an RBI and three runs; Samuel Guarisco, 1-for-2, three RBIs and two runs; Tyler Hoffpauir, 1-for-2, two RBIs and a run; and Nick Case, 1-for-2, a double, an RBI and two runs.
On the mound, Central Catholic’s Charlie Barron earned the win. In five innings, he surrendered an earned run on two hits with two walks and fanned seven.
Central Catholic (19-2, 7-0) will return to action today when it travels to Abbeville to face Vermilion Catholic in a District 7-1A contest set for a 6 p.m. start.
E.D. White
defeats Patterson
E.D. White defeated Patterson 10-1 in District 9-3A play at Patterson High Thursday.
E.D. White never trailed as it scored in every inning except the second and fourth, taking a 10-0 lead after the top of the seventh.
Patterson scored its lone run in the bottom of the seventh.
E.D. White outhit Patterson 10-5, while Patterson made five errors and E.D. White, four.
“It basically was a replica of Wednesday except EDW was even more opportunistic,” Patterson head coach Ryan Jensen said, referencing the Cardinals 7-3 win against the Lumberjacks in Thibodaux. “It’s just two games, though. We have the power and the ability to correct things and better prepare ourselves for the challenges of next week. Practice today may be the most important one we have had all season. We need to get things straightened out as far as fundamentals, composure, and attitude. It’s all part of the process of maturing as a team.”
Sirbatian Charles suffered the loss for Patterson. In 4.2 innings, he surrendered five earned runs on five hits with four walks and fanned two.
In 2.1 innings of relief, Jake Lagrange surrendered five runs — four earned — on five hits with four walks and fanned three.
Taylor Harris finished 2-for-4 with an RBI for Patterson, while Tyrik Singleton was 2-for-3 and Jamey Fabre, 1-for-3, a double.
Patterson (14-8, 2-2) will return to action Monday when it plays at Centerville at 4 p.m.
