Morgan City softball finishes 1-1 at Assumption jamboree
Morgan City finished 1-1 at Assumption’s softball jamboree Saturday.
The Lady Tigers fell to John Curtis, the defending Class 3A state champion, 6-0, but beat E.D. White 2-0.
Kennedy Hebert was the pitcher of record in both contests.
Morgan City was scheduled to open its regular season today at home against H.L. Bourgeois. However, that game has been pushed back a day to Wednesday at 4 p.m.
Berwick finishes 1-0-1 at jamboree
Berwick finished 1-0-1 at Teurlings Catholic’s jamboree.
The Lady Panthers fell to Notre Dame, 9-0.
Sydney Aucoin took the loss for Berwick.
Offensively, Madelyn Gros had a double to lead Berwick at the plate.
Against Teurlings, Berwick played to a 2-all tie.
Jordan Lipari pitched for Berwick.
Offensively, Jaci Arnold and Mary Jordan Melancon each had a hit and an RBI.
Berwick was scheduled to open its season today against Ascension Catholic, but that game was canceled. The Lady Panthers now will open their season Thursday when they host Assumption in a 3:30 p.m. contest.
CCHS competes at Teurlings Jamboree
Central Catholic faced Kaplan, the defending Class 3A runner-up and Opelousas Catholic, a Class 2A quarterfinalist, Saturday at Teurlings’ jamboree.
While Central Catholic coach Joe Russo said no book was kept, he said his squad, the defending Class 1A state champion, was “very competitive.”
Central Catholic was scheduled to open its season today on the road against St. Joseph’s Academy. However, that game has been canceled. Central Catholic now will open its season Thursday at home against Westgate in a 5:30 p.m. contest.
Other cancellations
Patterson’s softball team’s contest against Ellender today has been canceled. The team now will open its season Wednesday in a 4 p.m. contest against Plaquemine.
In baseball, Morgan City’s baseball contest Monday against Catholic High-New Iberia was canceled due to inclement weather. Morgan City now will open its season at the Tri-City Baseball Classic Thursday at Tiger Diamond in Morgan City. The Tigers will face Covenant Christian in a 5:40 p.m. contest.
Elsewhere, Patterson’s baseball game against John Ehret today has been canceled. The squad will open its season Friday in a 3:30 p.m. contest against New Iberia in opening round action of the Tri-City Baseball Classic at Patterson High.
Meanwhile, Berwick High’s season opener against Vandebilt Catholic Monday was pushed back to today due to inclement weather. It was unclear this morning whether that contest still would be played.
