Morgan City tops Berwick in area matchup

BERWICK — Morgan City High School topped Berwick, 71-12, in non-district action Friday.
The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 25-4 lead after the first quarter and led 42-7 at halftime.
Casey Chenevert led the Lady Tigers with 13 points, while Steveyion Walker had 12 and Meya Morse, 10.
Other top contributors included Hayley Harris, seven; Elicia Dorsey and Laqwajhia Bourgeois, six apiece; Kaylyn Washington and Samyra Toups, five apiece; Brittany Price, four; and Nakerial Bourgeois, three.
Brittany Boudreaux led Berwick with seven points, while Mickenzie Reed had three.
On Saturday, the Lady Panthers fell to Ascension Catholic 67-15.
The Lady Panthers scored all 15 of their points in the second half as Ascension Catholic jumped out to a 48-0 lead at halftime.
Iesha Jones led Berwick with nine points, while Boudreaux and Kayla Francise each scored three.
Berwick (2-12) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face West St. Mary in Baldwin in a 6:30 p.m. contest.
Morgan City (8-4) will hit the court again Tuesday when it travels to face Kaplan in a 6 p.m. contest.
Central Catholic
tops Gueydan
The Central Catholic Lady Eagles opened District 7-1A play on the road Saturday with a 69-46 victory against Gueydan.
The Lady Eagles jumped out to a 21-6 lead after the first quarter and extended it to 50-21 at the half.
Gueydan outscored the Lady Eagles a combined 25-19 in the second half.
Meo Knight led Central Catholic with a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds, while she also added three blocks, three steals and two assists.
Randi Brown had 25 points, eight assists, five rebounds and two steals.
Other top contributors included Gee Garrett, eight points, three rebounds, one steal and one assist; Megan Landry, four points, one steal and five rebounds; Mary-Beth Blanchard, five points and one assist; and Hallie Autin, three points, three steals and two assists.
The Lady Eagles connected on eight 3-pointers in the contest.
Central Catholic (13-2 overall, 1-0 in district) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face Highland Baptist in a 5:30 p.m. contest.
