Opelousas downs W. St. Mary
OPELOUSAS _ Quarterback Sam Jarrell ran for a pair of touchdowns while also tossing two scores, leading the Opelousas Catholic Vikings’ to a 55-0 District 5-2A victory over the West St. Mary Wolfpack here Friday at Donald Gardner Stadium.
Opelouasas Catholic (5-1, 2-1) scored in every quarter on the way to its second league win of the season.
Devin Thierry hauled in a 32 yard touchdown pass from Jarrell at the 9:49 mark of the first quarter, giving the Vikings a 7-0 lead following Richard Hollier’s kick.
Less than four minutes later, the Vikings extended their lead to 14-0 when Nick Mouret found the endzone from 4 yard out and Hollier splitted the uprights with his second kick.
Jarrell and Adam Perser combined on a 45-yard scoring strike before Hollier made good on the point-after-touchdown, sending the Vikings ahead by a 21-0 advantage at the 1:57 mark of the first quarter.
Opelousas Catholic added three touchdowns in the second quarter on a pair of short runs by Mouret and Jarrell for a 41-0 advantage at halftime.
In the second half, Jarrell scored on an 8-yard run before Evan Moody hit paydirt from 5 yards out to hand the Vikings the 55-0 league triumph.
WSM’s Dondre Johnson rushed for nine yards in five attempts while Wayne Armelin ran four times for one yard.
West St. Mary (1-4, 1-2) will play host to the Notre Dame Pioneers of Crowley (6-0, 3-0) on Friday at Wolfpack Stadium in District 5-2A play.
