Patterson defeats Covenant Christian

Patterson defeated Covenant Christian 2-0 (25-10, 25-10) in its opener at Morgan City High School’s 2014 Lady Tiger Classic Thursday.
The Lumberjills recorded 16 aces in the contest, led by seven from Arian Grogan.

Other top contributors included Nia Broussard, three aces, nine points and seven assists; Tamia Washington, three aces, four points and a kill; and Jazmin Evans, three aces, one point and two digs.
Patterson (5-0) will return to action Saturday at the tournament when it plays Central Lafourche at 9 a.m. at Morgan City Junior High School.
Later Saturday, the Lumberjills will face Ellender at 11 a.m. and Franklin at 2 p.m., both at Morgan City Junior High School.
Berwick falls 2-1 to Newman
The Berwick Lady Panthers fell to defending Division IV state champion Newman 2-1 (22-25, 25-20, 6-15) at Morgan City High School’s volleyball tournament Thursday.
Ashton Morales led the Lady Panthers with seven kills, five assists and five digs, while Abigail Askew had eight kills.
Other top contributors included Sydney Aucoin, two kills, one block and four digs; Hannah Carpenter, 17 digs; Mary Jordan Melancon, eight assists and one dig; and Roslyn Gros, one ace and three digs.
Berwick (7-3) will return to action Saturday at Morgan City High School when it faces Landry-Walker at 9 a.m., St. Martinville at noon and Sulphur at 2 p.m.
Morgan City falls to South Terrebonne
The Morgan City Lady Tigers dropped their opener to South Terrebonne 2-1 (18-25, 25-22, 16-14).
Jaiveianna Jones led the Lady Tigers with one ace, 14 kills, one block and eight digs, while Brandi Ingram had five aces, three kills and 13 digs.
Other top contributors included Abby Reynaud, 12 assists and four digs; Kennedy Hebert, one ace and nine digs; and Karley Guidry, seven assists and two digs.
Morgan City (4-5) will return to action Saturday when it plays Hahnville at 8 a.m., Sam Houston at 10 a.m. and New Iberia at 3 p.m., all in the Morgan City High School multi-purpose building.
In other first-day action, Central Lafourche defeated Franklin 25-8, 25-10; West St. Mary topped South Lafourche, 25-19, 25-20; Ellender beat Franklin 25-12, 25-13; Houma Christian beat South Lafourche 25-19, 22-25, 15-11; and Houma Christian beat West St. Mary 25-6, 25-10.
CCHS falls to Academy of Our Lady
Academy of Our Lady stormed back from a big deficit in game 1 against the Central Catholic Lady Eagles Thursday in Morgan City.
Kaitlyn Gros led the Lady Eagles with 16 assists and two aces as well as 26 digs.
Other top contributors included Brittany Longman, eight kills and 14 digs; and Emma Aucoin, 14 digs.
Central Catholic (5-11) will return to action Tuesday with a matchup at St. John.
