Patterson gaining more ground; CCHS remains idle

Patterson is gaining more ground outside the top 10 in Class 3A, while Central Catholic remained No. 7 in Class 1A, according to the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s latest prep football polls.
The Lumberjacks, who received five votes a week ago, are now up to 13 votes following a 56-14 victory against Ellender.
Patterson is behind only Union Parish outside the top 10. Union Parish received 16 votes in this week’s poll.
Meanwhile, Patterson is one of three teams from District 8-3A receiving recognition this week. E.D .White entered this week’s top 10 at No. 9 after defeating Kaplan 20-16 a week ago.
Kaplan, which received, five votes a week ago, is down to three votes this week.
Patterson will face Kaplan Friday in Patterson.
University Lab (3-1) remained the No. 1 team in Class 3A from a week ago after defeating West Feliciana 47-32. University Lab received nine first-place votes and 129 points, up four from a week ago.
In Class 1A, Central Catholic is one of three teams from District 7-1A ranked in the top 10. The Eagles kept their same position as a week ago and received the same number of points at 66. Central Catholic is 4-0 this season after defeating Lafayette Christian 50-20 a week ago.
Meanwhile, Vermilion Catholic and Ascension Catholic both remained in the top 5 in Class 1A. Vermilion Catholic (3-1) remained No. 4 but received one less point with 95 this week after defeating Highland Baptist 44-13 Thursday.
Meanwhile, Ascension Episcopal (4-0) still is No. 5 and is receiving one first-place vote this week after defeating Hanson 49-12 last week. However, the Blue Gators’ point total slipped from 91 to 90 this week.
St. Mary’s remained Class 1A’s top-ranked team with a 3-0 mark, nine first-place votes and 130 points overall. A week ago, St. Mary’s defeated Loyola Prep 26-12.
In Class 4A, Neville remained No. 1 with 11 first-place votes and 132 points after defeating Carroll 51-13.
