Patterson High routs North Vermilion, 67-32

The Patterson Lumberjacks routed North Vermilion, 67-32, in District 8-3A basketball action at Patterson Friday.
After North Vermilion connected on two three-pointers early, the Patriots went scoreless for much of the first half and for more than two minutes to begin the second period.
Meanwhile, Patterson took a 17-6 lead after the first quarter and extended it to 33-13 at the half.
Patterson, who outscored North Vermilion in every quarter, expanded its lead to 54-27 after three quarters.
Nehemiah Augustus led three Lumberjacks in double figures with 14 points. Taylan Grogan also reached double figures with 12, and Kenneth Washington scored 11.
Other scorers for Patterson included Jordan Butler and Dajon Richard, seven points apiece; D.J. Jones and Tyric Garrett, five apiece; Khyri Harris, four; and Kobe Gray, two.
Patterson (14-4 overall, 5-0 in district) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face Franklin in a District 8-3A contest. The boys game is set to begin at approximately 7 p.m.
Morgan City defeats South Terrebonne
For the third time this year and the first time in District 7-4A play, Morgan City defeated South Terrebonne.
In Friday night’s victory, the Tigers defeated the Gators, 54-38.
Earlier this season, the Tigers defeated South Terrebonne in Grace King’s tournament, while following that up three days later with another win against the Gators in Morgan City’s tournament.
In Friday’s win, South Terrebonne took a 10-8 lead after a quarter, but Morgan City responded with a 15-10 second-quarter scoring advantage for a 23-20 halftime lead.
Morgan City continued to extend its lead in the second half as the Tigers outscored South Terrebonne 20-8 in the third period for a 43-28 lead after three quarters.
Makye Richard led Morgan City with 18 points, while Tywan Walker also reached double figures with 15.
Other scorers included Ke’sean Francois, nine; and Jared Singleton, Taaj Daniels and Ronnell Williams, four apiece.
Morgan City (12-11, 1-2) will return to action Tuesday when it continues District 7-4A action with a home matchup against Vandebilt Catholic. Varsity boys action is set to begin at approximately 7:30 p.m.
Central Catholic edges Gueydan
The Central Catholic Eagles edged Gueydan on the road 39-37 Friday in District 7-1A action.
Trailing 28-27 entering the fourth quarter, the Eagles outscored Gueydan 12-9 in the final period for the victory.
The game was back and forth as Gueydan took a 13-5 lead after a period of play, while Central Catholic responded with a 17-5 scoring advantage in the second quarter for a 22-18 halftime lead.
Gueydan retook the lead after three quarters after outscoring Central Catholic 10-5 in the third quarter.
Jalen Johnson led Central Catholic with 13 points, while Brooks Thomas and Tanner Wiggins each scored seven.
Central Catholic (5-11, 3-3) will return to action Tuesday when it hosts Ascension Episcopal in a District 7-1A contest set for a 6 p.m. start.
Berwick High School falls to E.D. White
A rough fourth quarter by the Berwick Panthers doomed the home team’s bid for an upset against E.D. White in District 8-3A action Friday.
While Berwick, ranked No. 38 in the latest Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 3A power rankings, trailed just 31-25 after three quarters, E.D. White, Class 3A’s No. 10 squad, outscored the Panthers 12-3 in the final quarter for a 43-28 victory.
Berwick had just one field goal in the final period, a bucket by Audwin Williams with seconds remaining.
In the first half, Berwick and E.D. White played to an 8-all tie after a quarter, while E.D. White led 21-17 at the half.
Williams led Berwick with 11 points.
Other scorers included Larenz Clark, eight; Travis Whitehead, four; Tysin Meads, three; and Donald Tillman, two.
The Panthers (14-10, 3-2) will return to action Tuesday when they travel to face North Vermilion in a 7 p.m. contest.
