Patterson High School gains points in prep poll

Patterson gained votes, while Central Catholic remained idle in the latest Louisiana Sports Writers Association prep football polls published today.
The Lumberjacks, who knocked off Catholic High-New Iberia 42-41 last week, received five votes in Class 3A this week, up four from a week ago.
The Lumberjacks are one of three teams from District 8-3A receiving recognition, although none are in the top 10 anymore as E.D. White and Kaplan both dropped out after losses last week. E.D. White, which received 16 votes, was ranked No. 9 a week ago before falling to St. James.
Kaplan (2-1), which was the top vote-getter outside the top 10 a week ago with 26, received five votes this week after falling to Church Point.
Class 3A also has a new top-ranked team again as University Lab reclaimed the top spot after North Webster fell. University Lab (2-1), which received nine first-place votes and 125 points, moved up from No. 2 a week ago after defeating Mandeville.
North Webster (2-1) slipped to No. 3.
In Class 1A, Central Catholic (3-0) remained idle at No. 7 after defeating Ascension Catholic 70-46 a week ago. The Eagles, however, did gain two points up to 66 from 64 a week ago.
The Eagles are one of three teams from District 7-1A ranked in the top 10 with Vermilion Catholic remaining idle at No. 4 and Ascension Catholic still at No. 5 from a week ago.
While they both kept their same positions from a week ago, Vermilion Catholic received 19 more points this week than a week ago, up to 96, while Ascension Catholic received 15 more points, up to 91.
Class 1A also has a different No. 1 team this week as St. Mary’s (3-0) moved into the top spot from No. 2., replacing Kentwood (2-1), who fell to Amite a week ago. St. Mary’s received 130 points this week and nine first-place votes.
Kentwood is No. 3.
In Class 4A, Neville (3-0) remained No. 1 with 11 first-place votes and 132 points.
