Patterson rolls past Berwick

The Patterson Lumberjills defeated the Berwick Lady Panthers, 77-14, in both teams’ District 9-3A opener Tuesday.
Patterson jumped out to a 22-6 lead at the end of the first quarter, extended its advantage to 48-9 at halftime and 65-11 after three quarters.
“Last night was the first time this year that we really ran the floor well, which allowed us to get some points in transition,” Patterson head coach Tyler Olivier said. “This is something that we are looking to do better as we continue district play.”
Patterson’s Erykah Singleton and Makayla Ruiz each recorded double-doubles in the win. Singleton had 19 points and 13 rebounds, while Ruiz scored 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Other top contributors included Nakia Brooks, 15 points; Alex Benjamin and Gaylen Grogan, eight points apiece; Kemiah Watson, six; Jazmin Evans, five; and Nyla Holder and Nia Broussard, two points each.
Iesha Jones led Berwick with 10 points, while Nicole Johnson and Kloey Cuvillier each had two points.
Both Patterson (11-8 overall, 1-0 in district) and Berwick (0-10, 0-1) will continue district action Friday at home as Patterson will host Franklin in a 5 p.m. contest and Berwick will meet E.D. White at 6 p.m.
Morgan City knocks off
Assumption
The Morgan City Lady Tigers knocked off Assumption, 63-57, in District 7-4A action on the road Tuesday.
Casey Chenevert led three Morgan City Lady Tigers in double figures with 22 points, while Laqwaijha Bourgeois had 18 points and Alisha Singleton, 11.
Other Lady Tiger scorers included Haley Harris and Meya Morse with four each and Indexes Chenevert with two points.
Morgan City (7-7, 1-1) will return to action Friday when it hosts St. James in a 6 p.m. nondistrict contest.
