Patterson will host Class 5A Hahnville Friday

By CORWIN MURRAY

Patterson faces a tall order Friday when Class 5A’s Hahnville comes to town.
Patterson (0-1) tangled with another District 7-5A foe last week, losing to Central Lafourche, 22-12, in Matthews. The Lumberjacks took a 12-0 lead into halftime before surrendering 22 unanswered points in the second half.
In the first half, Patterson turned the ball over three times, losing the ball twice via fumbles and quarterback Dillan Giandelone was intercepted late in the half.
“First of all, we’re not in panic mode after a first-week loss to a 5A team,” Patterson first-year head coach Marvin Dantzler said. “We played pretty well, and the kids came back with great attitudes and energy. Even I have to remind myself that this is a very young team.”
But the turnovers must stop, Dantzler said.
“We have to establish the run this week, and we must clean up the turnovers,” he said. “We have to pay closer attention to detail, especially on offense.”
Giandelone led the Patterson offense, completing 8 of 18 passes for 125 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. He also rushed 21 times for 87 yards.
Jordan Butler led Patterson’s receivers with four catches for 85 yards and a score while Dajon Richard rushed 13 times for 57 yards and a score in the loss.
Patterson totaled 280 yards of offense (155 rushing and 125 passing).
Defensively, Patterson limited Central Lafourche to just 245 yards of offense (69 rushing and 176 passing).
Meanwhile, Hahnville (1-0) beat Woodlawn-Baton Rouge 41-20.
The Tigers are led by junior running back Anthony “Pooka” Williams. He was a preseason nola.com/The Times Picayune All-Metro team selection as an athlete. Williams has offers from Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Virginia, Northwestern and Ball State, among others.
Williams had eight carries for 123 yards rushing and a touchdown and four receptions for 126 yards and another score Friday.
William’s backup, Devonte Clark, had 131 yards on just nine carries and a touchdown.
Quarterback Austin Perrin was 8-of-16 passing for 216 yards and a touchdown.
“They’re fast and very athletic, with a lot of team speed and good size, which I expected from a 5A team,” Dantzler said. “We have to make tackles when we are in position, and I think this gets better as you play.”
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
