Patterson will renew rivalry with EDW

Patterson will renew its district rivalry Friday against E.D. White in Thibodaux.
The Lumberjacks and Cardinals were in the same district for six years. During that span Patterson won the matchup four times, going on to the district championship. E.D. White won the game twice and also went on to win the district championship.
“It’s always a hard-fought game and usually has championship implications,” Patterson head coach Tommy Minton said. “It will be a playoff-like atmosphere, and that’s good experience for the team.”
Patterson (5-2, 1-0 District 9-3A) beat Donaldsonville last week 50-7 for its fifth consecutive win. Quarterback Spencer Landry completed 11-of-12 passes for 212 yards with four touchdowns and an interception. The senior has completed 123-of-210 passes for 2,029 yards with 24 touchdowns and 10 picks.
Sophomore receiver Mykel Jones had four catches for 113 yards and two touchdowns Friday. He has 39 receptions for 732 yards and nine touchdowns this season. Jedrick Gunner added two catches for 52 yards and two scores. The senior has 16 catches for 228 yards and four touchdowns this season.
Patterson also rushed for 182 yards in the game. The ’Jacks are averaging nearly 146 yards per game on the ground. Deontay Jones had his second straight 100-yard game last week with 116 yards on 16 carries and two touchdowns, while Tristen Ausama added 69 yards on 11 carries. Jones has carried 67 times for 379 yards and seven touchdowns, and Ausama has 54 carries for 290 yards and a score.
“We hope to be balanced this week, but that’s every week,” Minton said. “We want to keep the defense guessing as much as possible. They (EDW) throw a couple different fronts at you to try to confuse the offense. We just have to recognize what front they are in and block our scheme.”
E.D. White (3-4, 1-1) lost to Franklin 6-0 in overtime last week.
Franklin scored the game’s lone points on a 4-yard run in overtime. The Hornets were unsuccessful on the two-point conversion.
E.D. White’s scoring attempt was hurt by penalties.
However, on third-and-goal at the Franklin 25-yard line, E.D. White’s Benjamin Sposito broke loose to the Franklin 1-yard line.
However, on the next play, the Cardinals fumbled on the exchange and Franklin recovered to preserve the victory.
The teams were locked in a defensive battle as E.D. White recorded all of its offense via 185 rushing yards, while Franklin had 170 yards — 99 rushing and 81 passing.
E.D. White’s Darius Charles had a game-high 92 yards on 18 carries.
“They are a physical running team, and they try to establish the fullback,” Minton said. “He’s a big kid and he runs hard, so we have to wrap up and tackle and be very physical as well.”
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. for the contest, which is E.D. White’s homecoming.
