Patterson WR Charlot commits to Alabama

Patterson High School standout wide receiver Daylon Charlot went to the University of Alabama’s Junior Day for football recruits on Feb. 1 with one thing on his mind: if a football scholarship comes his way, he’s taking it.
That offer came, he accepted and now he’s set on fulfilling his dream after high school as a member of the University of Alabama football team as an incoming freshman of the Class of 2015.
Charlot, a national recruit who has received both state and national postseason recognition after hauling in more than 1,000 yards receiving as a junior while sharing top receiving duties with another of Patterson’s main threats and Class of 2016 national recruit, Mykel Jones, said he had been considering going to Alabama since the beginning of his junior football season.
He had previously attended football camps at the university and said he liked the way the coaches and everyone else treats each other.
“The whole team, it’s just family,” he said. “Everybody gets each other better.”
A winning tradition didn’t hurt, either, as Alabama has won two of the last three national titles and had set itself up for a third national championship appearance this past fall until it fell in the final regular season game to rival Auburn.
“I think it’s a great accomplishment,” Patterson head coach Tommy Minton said last week before National Signing Day for the 2014 class. “Alabama has had either the top or the No. 2 rated recruiting class in the country the last four years in a row. When they come after you and recruit you, it tells you you’re one of the top players in the country.”
Charlot, a 6-foot, 177-pound wide receiver certainly has garnered national attention as he is ranked a four-star prospect by Rivals.com and ranked as its No. 33 wide receiver in the Class of 2015. 247Sports also ranks him as a four-star prospect and the No. 9 player in Louisiana for the Class of 2015.
The Patterson standout, which holds offers from Mississippi State, Notre Dame and Arizona State, among others, said as far as he’s concerned his recruiting is over now with his commitment.
During his junior season he caught 48 passes for 1,055 yards and 16 touchdowns, on his way to Class 3A Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 3A first-team All-State honors. He also earned junior honorable mention All-American honors at wide receiver from Student Sports.
He says the Alabama coaches have told him he can be a playmaker for them.
Looking to his senior season and beyond, though, he says he will be working on everything.
“I gotta get faster, gotta get stronger and I definitely gotta get bigger so I’ll become a great player at Alabama,” he said.
