Prep hoops power rankings updated

Staff Report

With the girls’ basketball season winding down this week, the only area team that appears to be a lock for the postseason is Morgan City.
The Lady Tigers, who were ranked No. 24 in the latest unofficial Louisiana High School Athletic Association power rankings released around noon Tuesday, defeated South Terrebonne Tuesday and will face Franklin today in its final regular season game.
The top 32 teams in each class advance to the postseason.
Meanwhile, in Class 3A, Patterson is ranked No. 33 in the latest rankings, but the Lumberjills dropped their contest to Donaldsonville Tuesday. They will finish the regular season Friday with a contest at E.D. White.
Salmen is Class 4A’s top team, while University Lab is ranked No. 1 in Class 3A.
Among other local teams, Central Catholic and Berwick will not be advancing to the postseason this year as Central Catholic is ranked No. 41 in the latest Class 1A polls, while Berwick is ranked No. 64 in Class 3A.
North Central is ranked No. 1 in Class 1A’s girls’ rankings.
On the boys’ side, three of the four teams are in position to make the postseason as Patterson is ranked No. 12 in Class 3A, Central Catholic is No. 13 in Class 1A and Morgan City is No. 29 in Class 4A.
A postseason appearance for the Berwick Panthers appears doubtful as they are ranked No. 49 in the 3A rankings with just three games remaining.
Edna Karr is Class 4A’s top-ranked squad, while University Lab is the No. 1 team in Class 3A and Madison Prep is Class 1A’s top-ranked team.
