Roberie’s free throws propel BHS

Cody Roberie sank three of six free throws with less than a minute remaining to help the Berwick Panthers hold off a late Hanson Memorial comeback for a 58-56 win in nondistrict action Thursday.
Roberie sank one of two free throws on each of his three attempts in the final seconds, the first breaking a 55-55 tie then one each during free throw trips as the seconds waned down.
Hanson’s desperation shot near mid court was off the mark at the buzzer, allowing the Panthers to escape with the victory and improve to 2-0 to start the season.
The Panthers, who trailed 20-19 at half, outscored Hanson 39-36 in the second half for the victory.
Audwin Williams led three Panthers in double figures with 18 points, while Tim Shelby added 16 points and Brandon Naverro, 10.
Roberie added seven and Tré Matthews scored five points.
Berwick will return to action, along with its girls’ squad, next week when it participates in the Catholic High Tournament beginning Monday.

defeat Franklin
Morgan City improved to 2-0 with a 72-61 win against Franklin at home Thursday.
Casey Chenevert led the Lady Tigers with 35 points, while Laqwajhia Bourgeois added 16.
Other top contributors included Elicia Dorsey, eight; Kaylyn Washington, seven; and Meya Morse, four.
Morgan City will have a long break before resuming play Dec. 3 against Patterson on the road.
