Six area football players earn Louisiana Football Coaches Association All-State honors

A combined six Tri-City area football players earned Louisiana Football Coaches Association All-State honors in classes 1A and 3A.
Central Catholic senior offensive lineman Thomas Garber, senior defensive back Ja’len Johnson and senior FLEX Greg Leger were first-team selections in Class 1A, while junior running back Chris Singleton was a second-team choice.
In Class 3A, Berwick High School junior Kenan Jones was a second-team selection as a wide receiver, while Berwick sophomore quarterback Mitchell Sanford was an honorable mention choice.
Senior wide receiver Devonta Smith of Class 3A state runner-up Amite was named Offensive MVP, while Marksville senior defensive back Juantravious Jones was named Defensive Most Valuable Player.
Dwain Jenkins of state champion Lutcher and Stephen Lotief of state semifinalist Kaplan were co-Coaches of the Year.
Other District 8-3A first-team selections included senior offensive lineman Jerrick Romero of Kaplan, senior running back Elijah Mitchell of Erath and linebacker Julius Johnson of Kaplan.
Other District 8-3A second-team selections included North Vermilion wide receiver Connor Dupuis and Kaplan punter Payton Gaspard.
In Class 1A, Senior Sam Philley of state semifinalist Oak Grove and senior Debell Crawford of Class 1A state champion Logansport shared Offensive Most Valuable Player honors.
Shannon Foreman of Division IV champion Southern Lab was named Defensive MVP, while Kevin Magee of Logansport is the Coach of the Year.
Other District 7-1A selections included Ascension Episcopal senior kicker Taylor Doss, a first-team kicker; and second-team selections wide receiver Ronald LeBlanc and Michael Remondet, both of Ascension Episcopal.
