Skipper’s Sporting Goods edges Taco Bell, 5-4

Ethan Scioneaux drove in the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the sixth and then recorded the save in the top of the seventh inning to lead Morgan City High School-based Skipper’s Sporting Goods to a 5-4 win against Berwick High-based Taco Bell in Swampland League action Monday.
Scioneaux was one of four Skipper’s pitchers used in the contest in what coach Tim Vidos said was a designed pitching rotation.
John Ross McNemar earned the win. In two innings, he surrendered three runs on one hit with three walks and fanned two.
Rhett Fryou, who started the contest for Skipper’s, had three strikeouts in two innings.
Scioneaux, along with Philip Hutchinson, Evan Stadalis, Abram Hartley, Cameron Marcantel and Scott Comeaux, all had a hit.
Brandon Fryou suffered the loss for Taco Bell. In an inning, he surrendered two unearned runs on one hit with a walk and one strikeout.
Nick Mayon started for Taco Bell and in three innings, he surrendered no runs or hits and walked three.
Offensively, Braden Billiot led Taco Bell with a 2-for-3 performance, while Cameron Wiley was 1-for-3 with a double; Neal Theriot Jr., 1-for-3, an RBI; and Andrew Askew, 1-for-2.
In junior varsity action, Skipper’s edged Taco Bell 4-3.
Skipper’s (1-0) will return to action today when it hosts LaShip (Houma Christian). Junior varsity action is set for a 5 p.m. start with varsity to follow at 7 p.m.
Taco Bell (0-2) will return to action Wednesday when it hosts Assumption High’s summer squad, the Mustangs. Junior varsity action is set for a 5 p.m. start with varsity to follow at 7 p.m.
Halimar Shipyard
tops the Braves
Central Catholic-based Halimar Shipyard used a six-run seventh inning to break open a close game with the Braves (H.L. Bourgeois) for a 9-2 victory.
Halimar led just 3-2 entering the top of the seventh.
Early on, the Braves scored a run in the bottom of the first inning before Halimar tied the score at 1 in the top of the second inning.
Halimar took the lead for good in the top of the third with another run for a 2-1 advantage.
Offensively, T.J. Ruffin led Halimar with a 4-for-5 performance with a double, a triple and a run.
On the mound, Greg Leger Jr. earned the complete-game victory. In seven innings, he surrendered two runs — one earned — on three hits with four walks and fanned seven.
At the plate, he finished 1-for-4.
Halimar pounded out 14 hits while limiting the Braves to three. The Braves also committed four errors.
“Tonight’s game was the definition of a team effort,” Halimar coach Tyler Jensen said. “Every available player contributed in some way. Gregory Leger was outstanding on the mound. He dominated the entire game. We swung the bats well from the very beginning, but we did leave too many guys on base. We finally broke it open in the (seventh) inning. If we can get this kind of effort from our guys every night, it is going to be a fun summer.”
Other offensive contributors for Halimar included Stefano Guarisco, 3-for-5, a double, two RBIs, a run and two stolen bases; Sage Thibodeaux, 2-for-4, a double, two RBIs and a run; Mitchell Lemoine, 2-for-4, two runs; Tony Pennison, 1-for-2, an RBI, a run and a stolen base; Thomas Garber, 1-for-3, a run; and Blake Hidalgo, an RBI and a run.
Halimar (1-0) will return to action today when it hosts Trinity Oil Tools (Covenant Christian). Junior varsity action will begin at 5 p.m. and varsity will follow at 7 p.m.
Frank’s Agency falls
Frank’s Agency suffered its first loss of the season Monday with a 5-2 loss to Trinity Oil Tools at Southland Field in Houma.
Brad Beaubouef led Patterson High-based Frank’s Agency with a double, a single and an RBI, while Jake Lagrange had two singles and Christian Soria, a single.
Bryce Beaubouef suffered the loss.
Frank’s Agency (1-1) will return to action today when it hosts Central Lafourche High School-based Jesters Court. Junior varsity is set for a 5 p.m. start with varsity to follow at 7 p.m.
