Skipper's for Sports defeats the Diamondbacks, 9-3

Skipper’s for Sports used a big seventh inning to pull away from the Diamondbacks for a 9-3 victory.
Ahead just 4-3 heading into the top of the seventh, Skipper’s erupted for five runs in the top of the seventh for the final margin.
While each team scored a run in the second inning, Skipper’s took the lead for good with two runs in the third and added to its lead with a run in the fifth for a 4-1 advantage.
The Diamondbacks scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut its deficit to 4-3.
While Skipper’s outhit the Diamondbacks just 6-5, the Diamondbacks committed six errors to Skipper’s three miscues. The Diamondbacks also walked five batters and hit two.
Tucker Manuel earned the win. In four innings, he surrendered one run — earned — on three hits with one walk, two hit batters and two strikeouts.
Mike Crappell pitched three innings of relief, surrendering two unearned runs on two hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
Offensively, Kade Dupre led Skipper’s with a 2-for-3 performance with two RBIs and two runs. Other top offensive contributors included Logan Gros, 2-for-4, two runs; Josh Lorenzo, 1-for-3, a triple and two RBIs; and Andrea Dragna, an RBI.
In junior varsity action, Skipper’s and the Diamondbacks played to a 5-all tie.
Each team scored two runs in the second, one run in the third and two runs in the fifth.
The Diamondbacks outhit Skipper’s 5-4, while Skipper’s committed three errors to the Diamondback’s one miscue.
Offensively, Seth Canty led Skipper’s with a 2-for-2 performance with a double and an RBI, while Braxton Fontenot finished 1-for-2 with a double, an RBI and a run.
Maurice Martin started the contest on the mound for Skipper’s. In an inning, he surrendered two runs — both earned — on one hit with five walks.
Seth Canty pitched four innings of relief and surrendered three runs — two earned — on four hits with one hit batter and seven strikeouts.
Skipper’s (5-7) will return to action Monday when it travels to face Praxair (H.L. Bourgeois). Junior varsity action is set for a 3:30 p.m. start, while varsity will follow at 5:30 p.m.
