Cold and wet conditions did not slow down Morgan City Tuesday as Sergize Flores netted four goals and Irving Delgado had two more in the Tigers’ 9-0 victory.
Flores scored goals in the 29th minute, one on a penalty kick in the 34th minute and goals in the 35th and 42nd minute.
Prior to Flores scoring barrage, the Tigers had led 1-0 on Jesus Hernandez’s goal 30 seconds into the contest.
After Flores’ first three goals gave Morgan City a 4-0 lead, Delgado netted his first goal in the 36th minute before Miguel Perez struck for the Tigers in the 40th minute for a 6-0 lead.
Flores’ third goal was followed by another Alvarado score in the 55th minute and Daniel Alvarado’s goal in the 60th minute.
Morgan City coach Trevor Patterson said his squad “controlled every aspect” of the game.
In the girls’ contest, the Lady Tigers fell 4-0.
H.L. Bourgeois capitalized on Morgan City errors as the Lady Braves scored the first goal on a bobbled ball in the goal box and added three more in the second half from Morgan City defensive errors.
“We had some chances to score but couldn’t connect the way we needed to,” Patterson said.
On Saturday, both squads faced Lutcher with the boys’ squads playing to a 2-2 tie, while the Lady Tigers fell 4-0.
In the boys’ contest, the Tigers struck first in the 18th minute with a goal by Alvarado, while the Bulldogs tied the contest 15 minutes later.
In the second half, the Bulldogs took a lead in the first minute before Alvarado tied the game in the 70th minute.
“The Tigers had more chances than the Bulldogs did, but we couldn’t score,” Patterson said, noting the Tigers were waiting too long to fire a shot or their shots were wide.
“This is the kind of game that we should have put away and had the win by three goals,” Patterson said.
In the girls’ contest, Lutcher got on the board right before halftime following a corner kick, while in the second half, the Lady Bulldogs netted three goals, two of those that Patterson attributed to mistakes and “laziness” on the Lady Tigers’ part.
It didn’t help that we have no depth on the bench and we were missing three starters,” Patterson said. “Not to take away from the Lady Bulldogs, who are a decent team, (but) we just weren’t playing to our standards.”
The Lady Tigers will return to action this weekend when they travel to Pineville for tournament play, while the boys’ squad will resume action next week.
