St. Mary teams compete in Tourney of the Teche

CENTERVILLE _ Kevin Johnson and Rafe Blades and led the E. D. White Cardinals to a 58-44 win over the Centerville Bulldogs here Saturday in the Tourney of the Teche.
The E.D. White Cardinals jumped out front by a 23-13 lead at the end of the first quarter. E. D. White iced away the 58-44 win with a 17-13 fourth quarter run.
Kevin Johnson led the Cardinals with 19 points while Rafe Blades fired in 15 and Eli Lasseigne finished with 11 pooint.
Centerville’s Jaylon Williams bagged 16 points on 2-2’s and 4-3’s.
Marquis Strawder fired in 13 points on 6-2’s, 1-3 free throws. Lance Howard canned 11 points on 1-2, 1-3 and 6 of 7 freebies. Jackson Hebert polished off the scoring for the Bulldgos with four points on 2-2’s.
MORGAN CITY 84, JEANERETTE 65
Morgan City outscored Jeanerette in every quarter to secure an 84-65 victory in the Tourney of the Teche here on Saturday.
Jeanerette’s T. Batiste 22 scored a game-high 22 points.
Top scorers for Morgan City were: Kejean Francois, 16; Makye Richard, 13; Jared Singleton, 11; Traj Daniels, 10; Tywaun Walker, 9; Deondre Grogan, 9; Morrqiue Charles, 9; Devonte Grogan, 4 and Kerwin Francois, 2.
In Friday’s boys action, Centerville topped Franklin while Houma Christian beat Jeanerette and E. D. White won over Morgan City.
CENTERVILLE 62, FRANKLIN 57
Jaylon Williams, Lance Howard and Marquis Strawder all scored in double digits as the Centerville Bulldogs slipped past the Franklin Hornets 62-57.
Kevin Ina led Franklin in scoring with 28 points.
Jaylon Williams was the top scorer for the Bulldogs with 18 points while Lance Howard finished with 16 and Marquis Strawder tossed in 13.
Rounding out the scoring for the Bulldogs were: Jackson Hebert, 6; Jaqualon Bourgeois, 4; Ryan Young, 3 and Deandre Kinchen, 2.
HOUMA CHRISTIAN 50, JEANERETTE 27
Houma Christian posted a 50-27 victory over the Jeanerette Tigers Friday in the Tourney of the Teche.
D. Polidore tossed in 8 point to lead Jeanerette.
Houma Christian’s leading scorers included: Tre Washington, 18; Manny Frye, 13; Trent Washington, 10 and JeCorie Ward, 9.
E.D. WHITE 62, MORGAN CITY 53
The E. D. White Cardinals benefited from a strong second half to prevail over the Morgan City Tigers 62-53 here Friday in the Tourney of the Teche.
Kevin Johnson poured in 23 points while Rafe Blades canned 17 and Eli Lasseigne fired in 11 to help propel E. D. White.
Tarj Daniels contributed 17 points while Jared Singleton canned 13 points for the MCHS Tigers.
The Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers strung together a 2-1 overall record in the annual Tourney of the Teche here over the weekend at the Centerville High School Gym.
The Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers notched consecutive wins over Morgan City and Berwick before dropping a three-point decision to the Teurlings Catholic Lady Rebels on Saturday.
TEURLINGS CATHOIC 36, HANSON MEMORIAL 33
Teurlings Catholic went on a 12-4 third quarter run to pull out a narrow 36-33 win over the Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers.
Hanson opened the game with 12-7 run before both teams poured in nine points apiece in the second quarter as the Lady Tigers held a 21-16 halftime cushion. Teurlings benefited from the 12-4 run in the third quarter to take a 28-25 lead. Down the stretch both teams poured in eight points apiece as Teurlings Catholic escaped with the 36-33 win.
Carlie Pellerin led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 15 points while Allyssa Young poured in 13 and Sarah Daniel finished with three and Baylee Young with 2 points.
HANSON 41, BERWICK 17
In Friday’s action, the Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers rolled past the Berwick Lady Panthers by a final score of 41-17.
Hanson Memorial led from wire-to-wire on the way to the big win.
In the opening quarter, Hanson Memorial seized a 9-3 advantage before taking a 19-8 halftime cushion.
In the third quarter, the Lady Tigers went on a 12-6 spurt for a commanding 31-14 advantage. Hanson Memorial benefited from a 10-3 run in the final stanza to post the 41-17 triumph.
Casey Fitzgerald led the way for the Lady Tigers with 11 points. Carlie Pellerin tossed in 10 points while Sarah Daniel and Baylee Young bagged seven points apiece and Allyssa Young finished with six points for the Lady Tigers.
