Swim teams to conclude seasons at state meet

Central Catholic, Berwick and Morgan City High schools will be in action either today or the coming days at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Louisiana High School Athletic Association Swimming State Meet at SPAR Aquatic Center in Sulphur.
In Division IV, Central Catholic had two competitors in action today in preliminary rounds as freshman David Nugent competed in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle, while senior William Hunter was competing in the 50-yard freestyle. Nugent is seeded No. 11 in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.65 and No. 12 in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:00.51.
Hunter is seeded No. 22 in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.97.
Also today, Berwick High School began preliminary action in Division III.
The Berwick boys are led by junior Mikey Martin. Martin is seeded No. 11 in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:08.18 and No. 16 in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:34.40.
Junior Mary Jordan Melancon will lead the girls’ team. Melancon is seeded No. 24 in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 28.41 and No. 25 in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:23.56.
Berwick junior Abbie Koen also will be competing in the girls’ 100-yard breaststroke, where she is seeded No. 26 with a time of 1:24.14.
On the boys’ side, the Panthers’ other individual competitor is freshman Joseph Borkowski, who is seeded No. 23 in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:17.13.
Berwick will have boys’ and girls’ relays competing in both the 200-yard freestyle and the 400-yard freestyle.
The Berwick boys 400-yard freestyle relay is seeded No. 10 with a time of 4:15.70, while the boys 200-yard freestyle relay is No. 13 with a time of 1:50.56.
The Lady Panthers’ 200-yard freestyle relay is seeded No. 14 with a time of 2:05.35, while its 400-yard freestyle is seeded No. 15 with a mark of 5:00.25.
Lady Panthers who could participate in relays include Shanna Roussel, Koen, Melancon, Mary Morella, Mary Catherine Reggie, Maya McGinnis and Megan Soileau.
Panthers who could participate in relays include Martin, Kyle Boudreaux, Stephen Theriot, Grayson Wells, Borkowski and Ty Kapp.
On Friday, Morgan City will begin preliminary action in Division II.
The Tigers are led by sophomore Jean’ Pat Dupuy, who is seeded No. 7 in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.61. He also is seeded No. 13 in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:06.50.
While he also qualified in the 100-yard freestyle, Dupuy only is allowed to compete in two individual events because he is participating in the Tigers’ 200-yard freestyle relay and 200-yard medley relay.
Morgan City also will have senior Carter Arcemont competing in the 100-yard breaststroke. Arcemont is seeded No. 25 with a time of 1:19.81.
In the relays, Morgan City’s boys 200-yard freestyle relay is No. 9 with a time of 1:48.66, while its boys 200-yard medley relay is seeded No. 10 with a time of 2:02.25.
In addition to Dupuy, other members of the relay teams include Arcemont, Ethan Aucoin and Hunter Gaspard.
