Taco Bell improves to 2-0 in Swampland

Taco Bell (Berwick) improved to 2-0 on the young Swampland League summer baseball season with a 7-6 win in eight innings against Crawdaddy’s Seafood (Houma Christian) in Berwick Tuesday.
With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the eighth, a passed ball allowed Ryan Hover to score the game-winning run.
Taco Bell, who trailed 6-5 heading to the bottom of the seventh, rallied to force extra innings when Bradley Gray doubled with two outs and Reid Wiley came around to score from first base to force the extra frame.
Taco Bell coach Mike Thomas said the game was an excellent team win.
“I am proud of the way the club is competing for the first two games of the summer,” he said.
On the mound, Grant Oubre earned the win in relief. In three innings, he surrendered no runs or hits and fanned four.
Cameron Wiley, Austin Price and Andrew Askew combined to pitch the first five innings and surrendered a combined seven hits, six runs and fanned five.
Offensively, Ryan Hover led Taco Bell with a 3-for-3 performance with two doubles, while Logan Angeron was 2-for-4. Other top offensive contributors included Gray, 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI; and Oubre, 1-for-3, an RBI.
In junior varsity action, Taco Bell won 8-3.
Kyle Boudreaux earned the win.
Offensively, top contributors were Lucas Hatch, two hits, including a double, and two RBIs; Mitchell Sanford and Zeph Hoffpauir, each a double and an RBI; and Shane Berger, a single and an RBI.
Taco Bell will return to action Thursday when it hosts Skipper’s Sporting Goods (Morgan City). Junior varsity is set for a 5 p.m. start with varsity to follow at 7 p.m.

Halimar Shipyard threatened in the bottom of the seventh inning but came up short against BCG Services in Swampland League summer baseball action in Amelia Tuesday, falling 6-5.
Halimar had the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, but BCG Services (Covenant Christian) ended the threat and the game with a strikeout on a full count.
Leading Halimar Shipyard offensively were Tyler Longman and Samuel Guarisco, each 1-for-2 with an RBI.
Other top offensive contributors included Adam Dupuis, 1-for-3 with an RBI; and Drake Angeron, 1-for-4, an RBI.
Blake Hidalgo suffered the loss for Halimar (0-1) in relief.
Halimar Shipyard’s contest today with Jester’s Court (Central Lafourche) was rained out. The squad now will return to action Monday when it travels to face Jester’s Court. Junior varsity action is set for a 5 p.m. start with varsity to follow at 7 p.m.

The Patterson High summer team will return to action Thursday when it hosts BCG Services in junior varsity and varsity action, set for 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.
