Three teams notch victories in HMS Holiday Classic Tourney

West St. Mary’s Lady Wolfpack, South Beauregard’s Knights and the Houma Christian Warriors all earned victories in Thursday’s action in the 75th annual Hanson Memorial Holiday Classic Tournament at the Billy Gene Talbot Gymnasium.
The West St. Mary Woolfpack topped the Franklin Lady Hornets 41-39 in overtime before the South Beauregard Knights defeated the West St. Mary Wolfpack 67-59 and the Houma Christian Warriors downed the Hanson Tigers 52-50.
LADY WOLFPACK 41, LADY HORNETS 39 OT
In Thursday’s opener, the West St. Mary Lady Wolfpack pulled out a comeback 41-39 overtime win over the Franklin Lady Hornets.
West St. Mary outscored Franklin 7-4 in the extra session for the 41-39 win after the game ended in a 34-34 deadlock in regulation.
Franklin jumped outfront by a 14-2 first quarter lead before securing a 24-11 halftime cushion. West St. Mary went on a 23-10 second half flurry to tie the game at 34-all at the end of the fourth quarter. During the extra session, the Lady Wolfpack nudged past the Lady Hornets by a 41-39 margin.
Ja’Kyrin Connor led the Lady Wolfpack with 13 points with Tajah Loston finished with 11 and Naishaylyn Brown added eight.
Quantae Jones tossed in a game-high 16 points to lead the Lady Hornets along with Kaira Butler with 10 points and Chardonnae Parker with six points.
SOUTH BEAUREGARD 67, WEST ST. MARY 59
South Beauregard grabbed a 29-19 halftime lead and never looked back en route to the 67-59 victory over the West St. Mary Wolfpack.
West St. Mary’s Duante Charles fired in a game-high 32 points on seven deuces and five treys.
Jordan Vince led the Knights with 19 points.
HOUMA CHRISTIAN 52, HANSON 50
The Houma Christian Warriors posted a last-second 52-50 win over the Hanson Memorial Tigers in Thursday’s nightcap.
The Tigers posted an 11-8 first quarter lead before holding a 26-22 advantage at intermission. The Warriors went on a 15-6 run in the third quarter, gaining a 37-32 cushion. Hanson managed to outpoint Houma Christian 18-15 down the stretch but it was too little as the Warriors hung on for the slim 52-50 win.
Bo Barrilleaux led the Tigers in scoring with 19 points on three treys, four deuces and 2 of 3 free throws along with three boards and two assists. Brennan Young finished with 14 points on four treys and one deuce, two rebounds and one assist. Clint Young collected nine points while Britt Young bagged seven points and Josh Sanchez added one point.
